new winter coat

Can anyone help? I'm looking for a nice long chocolate brown winter coat. Doesn't need to be too formal but not too casual either. I haven't been able to find anything quite right when I have time to look round the shops
(if not choc brown then a colour which would compliment it- I wear shades of brown a lot) I'm a size 16 with a large bust.

Can't help, cos I've been looking for something similar myself with no luck so far! There just doesn't seem to be anything in the shops that's quite right. Will watch this thread.

M and S online - per una fitted flared moleskin coat in chocolate, 95 quid don't know if it's lined, can't do links sorry.

shouldbedoinghousework · 23/11/2006 16:07

I like the per una one, thanks Helsy, v nice. I do worry sometimes though when clothes are described as fitted as there's often a problem doing up buttons over my bust....May order it and see though.

Any other ideas anyone?

Brown Velour £60

Long & Furry Suedette

NomDePlume · 23/11/2006 16:10

More of a jacket version of the long maxi coat

foxtrot · 23/11/2006 16:11

i have this casual in a chic french way (i hope)

shouldbedoinghousework · 23/11/2006 16:20

can I wear that quilted style though foxtrot, without looking heavier than I already am? Like the hood ( I have an old faithful long black coat with a hood- in an ideal world I'd get exactly the same in brown, sadly that coat is 6 yrs old so that's not going to happen)

NDP- thanks, having trouble with DP website at moment - ssoooo slow!

They may not be you taste at all. Some of them aren't my taste. I just remembered seeing some choc coats in there recently

foxtrot · 23/11/2006 16:26

It is quite thin quilting, not bulky and padded. My sister wears that type of thing and she has a bust and it looks fine.

shouldbedoinghousework · 23/11/2006 16:37

ah, got the DP pics now...not sure about so much fur...otherwise the lengh of the suedette one is just what I'd like.

If this doesn't work I give up!

helsy · 23/11/2006 22:29

shouldbedoinghousework · 24/11/2006 09:31

Thanks everyone

More choices than I'd found trailing round the shops! I'm loving mumsnet

I'll be ordering a couple of choices over the weekend

And I learned how to do links! Hope you find a nice one.

shouldbedoinghousework · 25/11/2006 09:22

Well done Helsy - I'd have no idea how to do a link so am v impressed by those who can!

Just went on m&s website to order the moleskin coat and they're out of stock in my size! Grrr how annoying is that??? Have rung our "local" store (still almost a 40 mile round trip from our house) and they have one in stock so I'm hoping we'll find the time today (in between taking ds to cricket club and dd to a party) to drive over, brave the crowds and get the bl**dy thing!
Fingers crosed it looks good on. The other one I liked was the quitted one foxtrot recommended but it's also out of stock this morning...not having much luck! Still, found couple of extra stocking fillers for kids on m&s website and pressie for awkward FiL so not all bad!

Have two promotion codes for M&S if anyone's interested-
PCDEFZZX- £10 off orders over £60
PCAHHZT- free p&p on orders over £30

foxtrot · 25/11/2006 16:35

did you find anything?

shouldbedoinghousework · 25/11/2006 19:29

Tried on M&S coat but was weird fit and made me look as though I was wearing a bustle! Didn't really want to make a feature of my backside so had to reject it which was a shame as otherwise it was very nice.

Looked in Gap and found a quilted knee lengh coat with a hood so have ended up with that. Would never have considered those quilted coats before for fear of looking a bit "michelin man". I hope I don't look like that as I really like it, it's warm, shower proof and machine washable, therefore ticking all the boxes for a SAHM!

I'm hopeless at buying clothes coz I struggle to know what suits me. The style threads are great so I expect to be asking for advice again.
Thanks

Verso · 25/11/2006 20:04

This coat here . I bought it in black - am also a size 16 and of ample embonpoint - and it's wide enough in the arms and across the norkage so I can wear a suit jacket underneath. Bit expensive, but I LOVE it!!

shouldbedoinghousework · 26/11/2006 17:15

V nice Verso but way over my budget sadly
