Are skinny jeans over?!?!? Crisis looming

I'm going to a hen party on Sat which is causing me a crisis. It's in a supposedly trendy part of London. I used to be fairly trendy but hitting 35 and having my son seems to have sapped all of that from me.

So.... Are skinny jeans ok, or are they over? And if they're over wtf do I do?

I saw quite a lot of skinny jeans in East London on Saturday evening. They tended to be high waisted and light in colour /stone washed, many with an Aztec-y style print on top.

spad · 05/08/2015 19:18

I so hope they are over.

nikki1978 · 05/08/2015 19:20

Well they are supposed to be over but everyone is still wearing them Smile

I say wear what you like and what suits you anyway. As long as you don't turn up in a tracksuit of course!

What top are you going to wear?

Tanaqui · 05/08/2015 19:20

Oh god I am so old now that sounds to me like such an eighties look! You wait they will be pinstriped denim any minute.

Still at 35 it'll be first time round for you so go for it! (Maybe don't accessorise with fluorescent plastic earrings though...)

nikki1978 · 05/08/2015 19:21

Although I would wear a dress as it is supposed to be good weather on sat.

TheOriginalWinkly · 05/08/2015 19:22

There was quite a late 80s/early 90s vibe, now I think about it. I had a.similar Aztec-y print on denim shirt when I was 9.

LaBette001 · 05/08/2015 19:56

Ah ladies, you're all so lovely. Maybe a dress is a better plan - though trying not to spend too much hence thinking the old skinnies might do.

Oh I don't know - it makes me want to revert to my usual Saturday night staple of gin in the living room!!

People keep saying they are over but the shops are wall to wall skinnies and I only rarely see people wearing a different type of jeans!

Lozislovely · 05/08/2015 20:35

I'm 41, a tubster and def not trendy BUT I have just found a skinny pair of jeans that don't make me look like a heffer (I hope Smile)

Next skinny - think they were £20, comfy as anything, trim the mum tum - don't care a hoot if they are on the way out as I'm sticking with them!

MotherBluestocking · 05/08/2015 23:04

Skinnies are fine!

burnishedsilver · 05/08/2015 23:16

The Autumn collections coming in on the high st have a mix of styles but there are still lots of skinny jeans.

Oblique27 · 05/08/2015 23:25

Are you older than 17? Smile if yes, no skinnies, IMHO

BumWad · 05/08/2015 23:29

Oblique don't be so daft.

Go for skinnies op they are so not over.

BumWad · 05/08/2015 23:29

Anyway what's the alternative to skinnies? Bootcut?

Oblique27 · 05/08/2015 23:40

And what's wrong with boot cut? Smile

burnishedsilver · 05/08/2015 23:53

The main alternatives seem to be flares, boyfriend and girlfriend. In reality,a lot of what they are calling flares are actually bootcut. So, despite the snort, there are lots of bootcut around.
