A blonde home hair dye which won't send me ginger?

My natural colour is a dark blonde, I am trying to get it lighter without the expense of a salon, but every time I dye it I go ginger.

Any advice? Or type of hair dye I should use?

You need a prelightener which is basically bleach. Nothing but bleach will lighten. Then you can go over it with an ash blonde tint.

Or go over with a toner or leave it bleach colour if thats what you like but basically bleach is the only way to lighten

Can you recommend a prelightener? Or just anyone I can find in boots or superdrug?

For years I have use the l'oreal prelightener and then gone over it with l'oreal ash blonde 8.1 and used silver shampoo.

This works fine on my very dark blonde/shit brown hair. My hair has not really got any red in it but I still have to be careful as somehow red gets out if I don't leave it all on long enough.

Haven't used any others as I liked the colour I got so thought if it isn't broke...
