Help - invited to wedding, need clothes!

I've been invited to the wedding of my boyfriend's sister in October. It'll be the first time I meet any of his family, so I'm incredibly nervous.

I'm very much a jeans and t shirt person, I don't have many dresses, but don't like formal trousers either, so prefer a dress, but I don't like waisted ones, they never sit right on me. Usually I wear T-shirt dresses that are quite clinging, but I have a spare tyre to hide at the moment Blush although I'm going to go on a strict diet until October in the hope I can get rid of it. I'm a size 14, sometimes 16 on the chest and waist and have ok legs I guess, large boobs, not much waist. I'm 50, but am told I look about 40 and dress young usually, very informal. I don't wear heels! Blush

Please help me find something to wear! Shock My budget is very low, I'm happy to look on Ebay. I need some nice low shoes, flat pumps of some kind too.

Will I have to wear a hat?? I haven't been to a wedding for about 15 years! Shock. I have long curly brown hair and hats really don't suit me. I don't wear my hair up either, it's the natural look all the way! Grin I want to feel comfortable, as the whole experience is going to be nerve wracking as it is, so need to be myself if possible! if that makes sense.

Very grateful for any help and advice. I don't really know where to start. In the past I've shopped at Dorothy Perkins, M&S, Next, New Look, Debenhams, Peacocks, M & Co although they are a bit too flowery usually ....

Thank you!

I can do kitten heels if they're low? [http://www.johnlewis.com/l-k-bennett-lori-slingback-kitten-heeled-court-shoes-black/p2099920 these?]] With a different price tag though! Shock

I'm not in Wales but I am from there originally and that is where bridge/groom live!

HelsBels3000 · 04/08/2015 13:51

I prefer the red one to the brown. Looks more wedding-attire. Black shoes and accessories and a black jacket?

FreakinScaryCaaw · 04/08/2015 13:54

I prefer red.

pumapants · 04/08/2015 13:57

these shoes? May be too much matchy matchy with red dress though

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 14:21

I don't do black jackets Grin , flaky scalp problems Blush

puma what a coincidence! Imagine if it was the same wedding .... Shock Do they live near Newport by any chance?

Not keen on the shoes, sorry, too high and too dark for me?

OP posts:
pumapants · 04/08/2015 14:40

Yes Newport.. It's not the 16th Oct is it??

Maybe a white jacket (short blazer type shape?) and then white sandals?

hellsbellsmelons · 04/08/2015 14:53

red shoes?

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 14:55

Oh blimey! I don't know the exact date yet ... Are you family or friend? Grin

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 14:55

Ooh hells those are lovely shoes, exactly the style I mean, although not so sure about the patent look.

OP posts:
kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 14:59

Sorry, the shoes are suede, not patent, just seen! Unfortunately not there in my size.

Family of bride!

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 15:05

Does her name begin with an E?

Omg I would LOVE it if two mners were both at the same wedding!

Op the two phase eight dresses are lovely. That new look dress is quite a young style and normally not very forgiving unless one has an incredible figure. Ankle straps on shoes are the work of the devil and I implore you to step away from those upthread.

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 15:13

I have this dress, I used to wear it to work.

I like that red phase eight dress

(Blatantly place marking to find out if they're going to the same wedding ????)

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 15:16

Queenbean thanks, I will stay away from ankle straps, I don't have the slimmest ankles any more.

Yes the New Look dress is a young style, I do tend to wear young casual stuff ... it is quite unforgiving, but with a pair of Spanx it is very flattering and makes me feel good when I wear it. However, it was more to show the neckline and style I like Smile

I quite like the thought of flat slingbacks and will search for some ...

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 15:17

Grin It would be a HUGE coincidence ....

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 15:34

Forgot to reply Puma no I don't wear much makeup, just a bit of mascara and blusher usually.

Clarkes shoes with the slight platform are amazingly comfy. Or could you try wedges? I love the dress but think it needs a bit of height in the shoe.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 04/08/2015 16:17

I wouldn't wear one you used to wear for work.

SuperFlyHigh · 04/08/2015 17:19

I love the first red Phase eight dress

kazzawazzawo0 · 04/08/2015 17:34

Thanks.

Yes, I really like the red dress too. I'm not sure where I might find it in store to try on, so will order in size 14 and hope for the best.
