Are expensive eyeliners better?

My search for a good eyeliner that doesn't end up under my eyes or isn't really hard to apply ( that is rock hard) continues. I am looking at pencils.
Am I going to have to pay more than high street prices?
I have a Charlotte Tilbury eyeliner that was pretty expensive but is the worst I have ever used in terms of smudging. May as well just draw all over my face and be done with it.
Are the likes of channel and YSl better, like their lippies are better?

I swear by 'Younique' for eyeliner. It's the best I have ever used, it doesnt smudge/panda eye at all, infact it can be a bugger to get off even after 18 hours! (and I don't work for them and never have so not trying to promote!)

You can watch demo videos on youtube. Oh and they have about 13 colours available! And its only £12! Grin

Maybelline studio line gel liner is great. under a tenner and includes a wee brush

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 25/07/2015 16:05

ah the Younique cult is here

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 25/07/2015 16:07

Have tried loads and so far Bobbi Brown gel liner is the only one that never budges on me even in 36 degree heat (on my recent sweaty holiday)

THIS ! THE GEL EYELINER PENCIL
It stayed on me all the way around DLP

Price doesn't necessarily equal quality. My favourites are TopShop and By Terry Pencils. Opposite ends of the scale by both fab.

Marylou2 · 25/07/2015 16:18

but* both fab.

I use a boots one and a really cheap 17 one I got in boots also.

I also use a clarins one in violet with a little sponge at the end to rub it in, it's almost gone, and not sure if I'll replace it, but it is an amazing colour.

All brill.

I used to use really expensive ones, but love the boots one best now I think. They're soft and waxy and have great colour.

I got a free jemima thingymebob make up school one and it's like a H pencil stick.... so so scratchy. I use it in my eyebrows.

I agree, you need to have dry, non oily lids. I use a small amount of powder on my lids before I put them on. Just nude bourjoir rosé shadow as a sweep.

I've tried loads and love the Urban Decay ones for colours but generally end up using a Rimmel automatic pencil. I don't think you have to pay a fortune for them these days.

Bigbuttons, I swear, it does not move. Inuse it to tightline and once done sweapnwith cotton bud to ensure no residue on waterline. It stays there until removed. Even during a funeral.

I have found happiness with Bourjois Effet Smoky. it's an eyeliner pencil with a little brush at the other end, and this brush gives just the right amount of smoky smudge. Spent an afternoon around Selfridges and Space NK trying Charlotte Tilbury and Nars and I can say hand on heart Bourjois gave the best effect.

No134 · 25/07/2015 19:53

Agree re Bobbi brown, but Bourjois gel eyeliner is a cheaper alternative, and virtually indistinguishable.

Dukketeater · 25/07/2015 20:23

The new rimmel exaggerate gel liner in a pot is like using permanent marker. It does not budge!!

MrsMarigold · 26/07/2015 11:06

I also use the no 17 one, I only started wearing eyeliner quite recently (about five years ago), I've tried some expensive ones but couldn't really be bothered paying that much.

I save up and buy lovely foundation instead Laura Mercier or if I'm feeling flush Chantecaille.

Just tried Lanacane as a primer but didn't rate it despite rave reviews on here - also got two spots afterwards.

(rubs hands) THANK YOU all, even more for me to investigate.......
