Green dress with red shoes in the summer?

Looking for an outfit for my DS's baptism in August. I am limited by my wide and sensitive hooves feet which got even wider after pregnancy. Many months of searching have yielded exactly one pair of shoes that are elegant and don't kill me, which are patent flats in a cherry red colour. They are also hideously expensive and I cannot afford a second pair in another colour this year.

I've been looking for a dress to wear to the event and this is the one I like the most: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/187028836/womens-maxi-linen-dress-green-long I was thinking that it would make a lovely colour pairing with my shoes and some accessories that include red. I am aware thought that this goes against the cultural grain. Would you look at this combo and think 'pleasing' or 'Christmas'?

The only other dress I've remotely liked is this one: www.theoutnet.com/en-BE/product/Raoul/Ava-crepe-dress/619025, but it's a pretty penny especially for something I don't love.

You could also tell me to get new shoes and grin and bear the pain, but a) spending more money on something I will not be able to wear again, b) I'd need flats anyway as I tower over DH barefoot, so a complicated quest in any case, c) I'd like to be able to enjoy the occasion without screaming inside.

I love green and red together and wear that combination quite often (I wouldn't give a damn if it makes other people think of Christmas, though I don't know why it should)

That first dress is lovely (I'd call it midi rather than maxi though)
The second one is also very pretty, but I prefer the green one!

I really hate high heels (both the look and the feel of them) and I never wear them unless I have to.

I think the green dress with the dark red patent shoes would look fine. Quite quirky actually :)

The green dress is gorgeous! Go for it.

BeautifulBatman · 22/07/2015 17:07

Love love love the dress. Have you got a pic of the shoes?

It's not remotely Christmassy Grin

Lovely combination.

I also want to see the shoes

Love the green dress and think red shoes would be perfect with it. Very much to my taste - you will look lovely!!

maybemyrtle · 22/07/2015 17:51

Dress is lovely and the outfit sounds great.

I would check and double check the sizing before you order though, I've ordered things form China in the past and the size has not always been as expected - def not vanity sized!

poppym12 · 22/07/2015 18:43

the green dress is lovely but are you sure linen will stay looking smart enough after sitting for a while? as myrtle says, triple check the sizing before you order.

I'm going to go against the grain and say Christmas, sorry. Hot pink shoes, otoh, would look fab.

mimiasovitch · 22/07/2015 21:52

Thank you so much! I adore that dress. It may or may not be in my shopping basket right now Wink

I didn't expect this much encouragement! Thank you!
Let's see if I have managed to upload a picture of the shoes (and if that changes the general assessment):

Yay, it worked! mimiasovich, don't you dare buy it before I place my order ;) (need to restart my computer first to check that all the malware that my new software has just identified has been successfully removed Shock)

Thank you for the advice re. measurements. I have bought another item before from this seller while they were still based in the UK (a coat for my wedding :)) and the sleeves came up a bit short but otherwise it was fine.

Now you have to help me find some accessories to tie it all off! I have an old red coral necklace as a backup option already in my stash. Quite fancy something in my hair too (have long hair, will consider updo).

I would go 40's styling if it was me. Slightly curled updo with a 40's feather (that's a big feather, not those little feathers on fascinators). And a red clutch (if you don't need a shoulder bag). Red lipstick, thin black line round eyes. Or a big red statement coral necklace would look fab - probably without a feather or headdress/hat as it would be too much

Peregrin · 24/07/2015 14:55

I have ordered the green dress! I have a red shoulder bag already and will probably just use that. Good idea about the red lipstick too, I may have defaulted to the softer colour I usually use.
