Is it a London restaurant? If so, people are a lot less smart than you might expect..!
Jeans and a nice top will blend right in

Artandco · 18/07/2015 21:26

Is there a reason you don't wear dresses?

MrsBertMacklin · 18/07/2015 21:43

Cigarette trousers, unstructured silk blouse? Hopefully someone will be along with more exciting suggestions.

yy to how posh?

If I'm not at work I wear jeans pretty much everywhere, and that has included Michelin starred restaurants

mrsdavidbowie · 19/07/2015 08:59

I never wear dresses as I feel overdressed and resemble Grayson Perry.

I'm tall and wear cigarette trousers and a top usually.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 19/07/2015 09:11

Which restaurant is this? Agree that most posh restaurants are much more relaxed than people expect.

PhoebeMcPeePee · 19/07/2015 11:12

Black jumpsuit & some killer heels

Lucked · 19/07/2015 11:14

I like the Boden Chelsea turn up and if you are being really lazy you could order a ravello top too. I get much more wear out of trousers as I find them easier to dress up and down.

polyhymnia · 19/07/2015 12:33

Like everyone else, really need to know what you mean by a posh restaurant. Agree that in London good jeans and a nice top would be fine.

niminypiminy · 19/07/2015 12:35

Also if you are sitting down whoever you are with will only see the top, so concentrate on that and wear neutral but nice trousers on the bottom.

withdrew my comment cos got the lonks all wrong -wanted to say coated trousers , sequin top and wedges

louloubelle2 · 20/07/2015 11:01

nooddsocksforme Sorry I don't agree, sequin tops are fine for a party or a xmas do, not a posh restaurant in July.

Like other PPs have said, you might be surprised at how casual some "posh" restaurants are, so it would help to know which one.

I'd say black trousers, skinny or wide leg but most importantly comfortable enough on the waist to enjoy your meal. Have you had a look at Winser London for example?

Then a smarter top as this is what will be seen, like a silk blouse or something in a loose crepe or good quality viscose with some sort of interesting detail or neckline.

Heels99 · 20/07/2015 11:02

No to sequin top! It's not an office party.

polyhymnia · 20/07/2015 11:07

Agree, definitely no to a sequin top for an expedition to a good restaurant.

Loafliner · 20/07/2015 14:54

Jeans and a nice top, overdressed makes you look like you never get out.

nooddsocksforme · 20/07/2015 14:57

oops -in my defence it is a casual top with sequins-but mayb i need to come on here a bit more often

Heels99 · 20/07/2015 14:59

Does depend on how posh though the ritz I think has a no jeans rule? I know it's tourist rather than posh but thought would mention
