Help! Where do I buy a gorgeous dress?

I'm looking for a beautiful dress to wear for a couple of christmas parties. I've been trawling the internet looking at shops' websites but I've not seen any with the wow factor. I work as a school librarian so I'd love to do the 'why Miss Jones - you're beautiful!' thing for the staff do (not that I'm on the pull of course! )

I'm a slightly pear shaped size 12, 32 yrs old, and I'd like something with colour - not black. I can wear quite bright colours and I love red. I've got quite a nice waist so I'd like to show that off.

Any potential Trinnies or Suzannahs with any ideas of where to look? I've got a very rare day off work on Fri (with dcs being looked after) so I'm going shopping then and I'd love to buy something gorgeous.

Thank you!

Look at M&S online, they have some nice dresses

Carmenere · 20/11/2006 18:29

Monsoon is very good for colourful dresses.

amynnixmum · 20/11/2006 18:31

I second Monsoon - lots of vibrant colours

texasrose · 20/11/2006 18:32

Hmmm...Monsoon is a bit pricey I think. I'm looking at £80 tops really.

Altho that kind of look is v. much my cup of tea.

M&S's dresses are nice but the ones I've seen are all black.

monsoon. they do some amazing dresses! sometimes i just go in just to look at them and mutter bitterly about how they flatter the hanger so!

amynnixmum · 20/11/2006 18:33

It can be pricey but they do sell dresses for less than £80 so its worth a look. I bought a really nice one this year for my BILs wedding and it was £65

MrsBadger · 20/11/2006 18:36

really, Monsoon!

this one is a fab colour, flatters most shapes, is on budget and comes in green and bleu print or stripes

jamieboo · 20/11/2006 18:37

yes that is a beautiful one

amynnixmum · 20/11/2006 18:37

Thats' the one i got Mrsbadger I love it - makes me feel like Marilyn Monroe

texasrose · 20/11/2006 18:42

Wow, I really like that in the red.

I fI buy it I'll try to upload a picture of me in it (No promises tho - a bit of a beginner at technology-related pursuits I'm afraid!)

Thank you!

Whistles have lovely stuff. They're always beautiful and something unique about them. Good luck!

texasrose · 20/11/2006 18:43

Amynnixmum can I ask what you wear with it, ie. shoes, accessories etc?

I can see how it makes you feel like Marilym Munroe! I think my dh would find me very sexy in that dress!

I wore strappy sandles with a small heel (cos I can't walk in proper grown up heels) and I wore a silver choker style necklace. I got a crochet cardigan from principles to go with it but it wouldn't be warm enough for this time of year. If i wore it at this time of year I'd use a wrap.

newgirl · 20/11/2006 18:51

that is a wow dress - def go for that!

If doesn't work out I think New Look can have some lovely dresses - I tried one on in a patterned silk like a tea dress so pretty and they sell very quickly so not that likely to see someone else in it
