I would be tempted to wear something else to the party. When asked why you could stay that you changed your mind about the dress and felt it was boring/cheap/tarty/ill-fitting/ugly etc, but emphasise how well it suits the other woman.

I know Mama why don't you wear yours back to front? they won't notice the other one, or anything else for that matter!
