Foundation for hot weather

rachelmonday1 · 22/06/2015 09:57

Can anyone recommend a foundation that will stay on in hot weather and not just slide off of my face? I've tried MACs Pro-Longwear and it stays on, but feels like I'm wearing a mask! Mineral powder doesn't work either as, being a guy, my pores are quite large and I need better coverage. Any suggestions would be hugely welcome! :)

Have you tried Lancôme 24 hr Teint Idole? Lots of shades, they give samples and doesn't budge.

rachelmonday1 · 22/06/2015 18:26

Thanks everyone. I've decided to go into town tomorrow and to get samples of as many of these as possible and to try them at home. I know some counters will let you try them in the shop, but I always find shop lighting to be so misleading.

I'm intrigued by the thought of using hairspray as a setting spray though Robstersgirl! Would you powder before, after or not at all?

You don't need powder at all with EL. If you usually powder then I would do as normal then just blast your face with the hairspray after.

Robstersgirl · 22/06/2015 18:46

Also (and promise I'm not a rep!) EL will give samples and they are absolutely amazing at replacing things if you don't get on with them. I was using a foundation for a month before I realised it wasn't the colour I wanted, they took it straight back and replaced no questions.

Shut your eyes if you hair spray!!! My God it hurts!!! And do it after, not before mascara. it'll all drop off in your eyes if you mascara after spray.

rachelmonday1 · 22/06/2015 19:48

Thanks for the tips Ladies!! :)

Oh no, don't spray hairspray on your face!!! It's mainly alcohol. You'll end up with long wear make up and zits.

Daft. Just daft.

rachelmonday1 · 22/06/2015 20:10

What do you mean by "long wear makeup" Picachew?

I only wear makeup when I crossdress and that's only for an evening or day every week or so.

Picachew · 22/06/2015 20:26

I mean it will be long wear if you put hairspray on it! It may never come off!

rachelmonday1 · 22/06/2015 20:31

OMG!!! Now that WOULD be embarrassing!! Thanks for the advice :)

I'm not speaking from experience mind, I just don't think hairspray is a good idea to put on your face ever. When I used to work as a Saturday girl at the village hairdressers we had to use meths to get it off the mirrors! Grin

AMcoffeeLover · 22/06/2015 22:08

A good primer can make a lot of difference. What are you using?

NeverNic · 22/06/2015 23:14

At the risk of complicating things further, it's really important to consider your skin care too, especially in the summer. It might be necessary to swap to a lighter moisturiser or an oil free one, and leave enough time for it to be soaked in. Application tools are really important too. If I need to keep a polished look (like a long wedding etc.) I take time with a brush and apply with circular movements, building where I need extra coverage. Sponges and fingers don't do the job properly. This way really buffs it into the skin if you get me.

Clinique do foundations that match your skin type including one for large pores so that might be worth a visit. Personally I've swapped from mac to Bobbi Brown. Textures and colours are better for me and Ive never noticed slippage.

rachelmonday1 · 23/06/2015 10:15

Picachew: thanks again. Not only could it have been embarrassing, it could have been totally disastrous!

AMcoffeeLover: I currently use MAC Prep&Prime moisturiser, which I find to be really good :)

NeverNic: I exfoliate every day and use a moisturiser every morning and a cleanser before bed. I also use a stipple brush to apply my foundation and Youngblood Kabuki brush for powder as I totally agree that these give a better finish. I'll add Clinique and Bobbi Brown to my growing list of counters to visit today. At this rate I'm going to need a day to try them all! :)

So I went to get colour matched for EL Double Wear Light today. I use Fresco in the DW foundation and was colour matched to 3.0 in DWL and was given a 10 day sample along with a sample of their mattifying primer. I've got fake tan on my face at the moment so I wanted something with coverage but not so dark that I would look dirty. Will see how it looks when I put it on tomorrow!

Tisgrand · 24/06/2015 17:33

I'm currently wearing No7 Stay Perfect Superlight foundation and it is very long lasting, applied this morning at 8.30 am and still looking good at 5.30 pm. I use a setting spray by MUA, its called Pro Base Fixing Mist and it was recommended here. Costs around £5 and can sometimes be got on special in Superdrug. I really rate it and would recommend this before I'd recommend a primer, which I don't really get the point of. Maybe they are good for dry skins but mine is oily. Try the setting spray though. Rachel - have you been to the counters today? Do tell!

rachelmonday1 · 24/06/2015 18:21

Tisgrand, I went yesterday morning and came back with a whole range of samples and advice about the do's and don'ts of applying foundation. All of the girls were amazingly helpful and understanding, in House of Fraser they actually took me to each others Counters to talk about each others Products. I've not had a chance to try any of them properly yet, as I've been busy in "guy mode" and will be for the next couple of days. I have a Girls night out on Saturday and so will definitely try them before then and post a summary of how I get on. :)

I wear double wear in fresco normally but in hot wear I wear medium dw light. For me YSL ink is a close second to double wear, a nice finish but I would need to top it up as it doesn't have the same staying power as double wear. I just got the bronze goddess bronzer too, that's nice!

Featherbluedot · 17/07/2015 12:38

I wear boujois CC cream in the summer and in the winter, clarins everlasting foundation. I wear la roche posay effeclar duo moisturiser underneath to keep my skin looking as best as possible plus it's an excellent primer
