I'm on my continuing perfume quest but am facing one looming obstacle which will trip me up and cause me to fall flat on my face....

How do you say silage? Surely it's not like the stuff you get on a farm, is it?

"By Jove, Jeeves, this perfume smells like shit!"
"It'll be the see-yarj, sir."
Couldn't resist! Grin

jimmy aye, you can buy tommy girl everywhere. Boots, Amazon HoF etc. It got 5 stars in the perfume bible. Its £10 for 50ml I.think.

gaggiagirl · 15/06/2015 22:53

And I'm over 30 and I wear it. The younguns of today are wearing Prada candy and Nicky minaj and stuff.

Laquila · 15/06/2015 23:03

For the Irish amongst us, see-yahj might be a better transcription :)

"Yahj" is pronounced so that it rhymes with the last syllable of "garage", if you were saying it the poncy way, rather than "ga-ridge".

opens new can of worms, passes them round

MimsyBorogroves · 15/06/2015 23:07

I still love Tommy Girl too.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 16/06/2015 07:30

gaggiagirl- I stood in front of my local perfumery yesterday admiring the display but, at the same time thinking, I wouldn't even want to sniff any of these because they have silly names, they're in pink bottles and the models are 12.

undoubtedly · 16/06/2015 08:06

Sangria I think that's why I'm becoming a bit of a perfume snob.

Creed, Penhaligon's, Maison Francis Kurkdjian are just so sophisticated and beautiful.

Anything celeb endorsed just seems tacky.

I'm aiming at sophisticated and beautiful - I'm obviously not there yet because I can't even spell sillage :)

Sangria, step away from those pink bottles Wink With your love of frankincense, have you ever tried Andy Tauer's L'air du desert marocain or Incense Rose or Messe de Minuit from Etro?

DrankSangriaInThePark · 16/06/2015 09:04

I haven't, but I will! I used my oil last night and it just feels so much more me than the rose facial oil....though that said I am in good old 80s Paris today...to combat Eau de middle aged man in the post office...Smile

undoubtedly · 16/06/2015 10:37

My SOTD is Penhaligon's Artemisia.

It's lovely and summery and it's a sunny day today :)

If anyone is near or visiting the north of England there's a penhaligons outlet at MacArthur Glen in York. Its a little treasure trove.

MsBojangles · 16/06/2015 10:56

I tried and bought JLo Glow yesterday and fell in love. I feel slightly less embarrassed by this now after hearing about you Tommy Girls Grin

DrankSangriaInThePark · 16/06/2015 11:33

I have just checked what my Eau de Rotting Melon is and it's Penhaligon's Peoneve. Though another hesitant sniff this morning seemed more like Eau de Is There A Nappy Needs Changing?

BitterChocolate · 16/06/2015 11:57

There's a fab app called howjsay which pronounces the word for you. Obviously it would be more impressive to duck into a quiet corner and listen before approaching the perfume counter, you might just as well get it wrong as whip out your phone and use the app right in front of them. Grin

morethanpotatoprints · 16/06/2015 12:01

sile - idg is the way I would pronounce it.
I'm probably wrong though Grin

FrugalFashionista · 16/06/2015 12:10

Sangria I absolutely dislike peonies in perfumery. Worryingly when I did the nose.fr diagnostic thing Peoneve was the first hit The melon note (usually an aromachemical called Calone) is another note that I usually dislike. I like almost everything else, but these two make my stomach turn.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 16/06/2015 12:14

Yes, even melon sitting in the house has that going-off scent I find.

FrugalFashionista · 16/06/2015 12:17

I wonder if some people don't smell it? DH buys cantaloupes, leaves them in the fridge half-eaten, and never seems to notice that awful rotting stench...

formidable · 16/06/2015 14:29

Are there perfume workshops you can do which help you identify notes etc?

I'm crap at identifying the different parts of the scent. My reviews on Fragantica are shite....
