No Spend on S&B during June - Anyone In?

Valsoldknickers · 30/05/2015 11:41

Is anyone up for not spending money on unnecessary S&B items for the month of June?

My finances are not in good order Sad. I did a 'no spend' couple of months with other MNetters (online and lurking) last year. It was bliss to get a credit card bill afterwards with an almost zero balance. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders (albeit temporarily)!

I have enough of everything - hair dye, moisturiser, clothes (if I shifted a few pounds), etc. Any other spending would just be on frivolous crap if I were to continue as I have been doing!

Roll on 1st June, I am tightening the purse strings and hiding my credit card! Come and join the fun ConfusedGrin

I can join mostly becasue I own enough summer clothes to live in a hot country year round and I don't. No special occassions planned so I would just be adding to my pile of clothes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/05/2015 12:25

That means there's still today and tomorrow

Yes, I'm in.
I have a Birthday in June (hoorah, another year older)

I bought some sandles , but I want to get another pair in navy .
I need a couple of pairs of leggings.

Got enough toiletties to start my own shop.I put them all in baskets a while back so we can work our way through them (but a load of them are DDs anyway)

I can't do No Shop in Autumn because all the knitwear is out (I'm a sucker for a jumper)

I have to put aside money for a haircut in 3-4 weeks but otherwise, I'm IN Grin

cuntyMcCunterson · 30/05/2015 12:27

Me! I decided I'm not buying any new products until ALL the old ones are used I have brought stuff to stick a small Boots! I don't buy many clothes as I'm a fat lump so wear the same things all the time!!

Itsalldramarama · 30/05/2015 12:40

Il try hArd ! Stocked up on skincare and more ordered so should last ... Dd has hair dye for me and Im still waiting for decants from the perfume court so I really don't need anything but wants a different matter ;) but I'm tightening the purse strings as from now !! Good luck everyone ! Post if you get tempted and we will have to talk each other out of it :)

Valsoldknickers · 30/05/2015 12:50

This is great! I need to become a stranger to the DPD delivery man Grin, he knows me by my first name Blush

DH and I don't argue much, but we did over money last night Sad. This exercise will go some way towards remedying what has become a slippery slope. I am in great company, thanks!

I'm in. Just back from three and a half weeks in Australia where I spent a fortune. Having spent a fortune before I went.

I don't need any beauty products.

I don't need any clothes.

I do need hair cut and coloured next week but other than that i am spending nothing. I did it in January and it was surprisingly easy. Had kept money on my Boots card in case I was tempted by anything - only £16 but enough as a sneaky cushion!

I also don't need any books or magazines and have loads to do in the house to keep me busy.

I'm in. I don't really need anything until Spring (I'm in Australia) anyway.

noddyholder · 30/05/2015 14:12

yes!!!

fredabear · 30/05/2015 14:14

Yes I'm in, although ordered some work clothes last night (thanks to that pesky doesmybumlook40) and went to Clinique counter today - but is still May so I'm ok!

5446 · 30/05/2015 14:20

Oh god, please let me join.

My finances are disgusting at the moment. I really need to stop with clothes, haircare, skincare, makeup. It is disturbing how much I spend.

I am due my biannual haircut and highlights in June, so will only spend on that.

Liveinthepresent · 30/05/2015 14:30

This is a good idea and well timed as I have made all my summer purchases ( loads!) and am really enjoying wearing it all and not constantly struggling to put work outfits together.
I am about to buy a jacket from hush that I have been eyeing up and some hair products then that's me!
Is it allowed to go to an already booked hair appt??
Great thread OP.

FrugalFashionista · 30/05/2015 14:39

I could actually do this! I am using up some old products and have lots of new things too so I could focus on what I already have.

Lambzig · 30/05/2015 14:54

I'm in. I need to pay for the house renovations happening at the moment. The way things are going, I will have a bare concrete floor and a camping stove in my new kitchen. No new clothes or beauty products for me until September at the earliest.

Lambzig · 30/05/2015 14:55

Oh my exception will be getting my roots done.

Valsoldknickers · 30/05/2015 15:33

I would vote that roots and holey socks and knickers are a no-no for anyone, so they would be the exceptions IMO.

I really started this thread because of all the frivolous shite I am accumulating and how it is proving to be a massive waste of cash. TBH I don't wear everything or use all the toiletries I already have as it is! My car is dying on it's ass and I don't have anything towards a new one Sad. It's 100% my fault and I need to do something about it! Like your good self Lambzig my money is needed elsewhere!

Best of luck to everyone!

Actually I need some new bras. I will order them this weekend!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/05/2015 21:47

Yesterday I dragged DH out shopping (I usually take DD ) and bought sandles and leggings (Clarks and Uniqlo)

Looked in M&S but I really CBA traipsing round all their different sections to find what I wanted.

Bought a mascara (Rimmel)

Had a look in Sainsburys today but nothing gripped me.

Ordered some Philosophy (my birthday present from the DC) as it;s still May.

So tomorrow, it starts.
I will have my hair cut in June but I have hairdye already.

Buttwing · 01/06/2015 13:37

Oh my god I need to join you I don't know what's wrong with me at the moment!

In the last couple of weeks thanks to mn I've decided to buy myself a whole new skincare regime. Thanks to whoever recommended the balmology cleanser by the way, it's gorgeous.

I've just got back from ikea via m and s and seem to have also bought the denim skirt with buttons.

Enough is enough! I don't need anything else! Grin

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 01/06/2015 13:43

Other than that I spent £750 this morning, yes.

Yes yes yes.

I'm in, just got back from holiday abroad so already okay for summer clothes. Just a pre-booked hairdo on Friday and if the sun comes out I will need sandals. I discovered that evil Deet in mosquito repellant removes dye from leather and my lovely silver leather sandals had to be binned Hmm beyond that I am up for going S&B no spend June.... I hope Blush

pinkelephantnightclub · 01/06/2015 13:59

I'm in too- might need some support though

Marmaladybird · 01/06/2015 14:12

I'm in! Did buy some clothes this morning but that's it now. Aprt from my roots - they will need doing before the month's out.

Lambzig · 01/06/2015 14:28

Managed to talk myself out of going to Uniqlo at lunchtime today.

You see this is the logic that trips me up.

A month or so ago I bought a hoody from Uniqlo. I wear them for walking to the gym and when we are camping, so not exactly a glamour item. Last week we camped and I wore it non-stop and really liked it much more than others I have had, fabric, fitting, colour etc.

So my logic this morning was that I need to go and buy it again as I will never find one I like as much and need to have it in stock for when it wears out.

I cant tell you the number of items I have bought two of, or the same in a different colour. This ignores the fact that in the former case I am usually thoroughly sick of it by the time it wears out, in the latter, I only end up wearing the colour I chose first because I like it more.

Anyway, this embargo stopped me. I am finding it tricky though and only about a week in (or 1 day if we start from June).
