can you tone up chunky legs and bum? (pear shape)

I am typical pear shape. I'm not overweight and am happy with my top half but have a big bum and legs and am a bit cellulitey down there. I'd love nice toned legs but am I fighting a loosing battle?

What do you mean tone up? Of course you can tone your muscles but you can't pick where to drop fat from so if you diet you could end up with the same size bum and a skinny face (what happened to me when I lost a fair bit of weight!)

I'm a pear as well. The easiest way to look toned is to drink no less alcohol, drink a lot more water and do body brushing. It stops the slight bloating that makes the fatty bits look worse.

For actual toning, it's a lot lot lot of squats and lunges I'm afraid. The gluteus maximus (esp if you are pear with a pokey out bum like I am) is a very large muscle and therefore quite hard to isolate for toning I've found!

The other thing to think about is building up your shoulders a bit so you balance out your bum. As a woman you won't get bulky but in training with heavy weights I've increased my shoulders and upper back a bit to balance out my heavy bottom half (which also shrank with the training).

I've got the same issue - massively disproportionate bum to upper half. I've started couch 2 5k and am on week 5 now and I've definitely noticed a difference. My bum still sticks out as much as before but I've lost weight off the side of my bum iyswim- it's also toned my thighs and calves so I feel less dumpy.
It is doable and although I'm probably still pretty chunky on my lower half compared to most it makes me feel a lot better. My boobs have also shrunk though but they weren't particularly large before so it's not that noticeable! Grin

I'm not a fan of the gym I find it boring. Running and cycling along with pilates using a resistance band have great results.
