Can I really go to the ball for less than #100?

Feeling fat, frumpy and all of my 50 years at the moment but I really want a bit of a Cinderella moment. I have a black tie event coming up and I really really want to look as glamorous as I can given the contraints of age, size etc. I am size 16, hour-glass shaped with massive boobs (36gg) and I want a full length glam frock for less than a hundred quid. Is that even doable? I've been looking online all day but most things look like they wouldn't contain my boobs in a seemly manner or else are so high-necked they would give shelf-effect norkage. Colourwise also I am pale and reddish/blondish haired so don't suit red and don't want black or navy which rules a lot of stuff out. Can anyone help me? I know it's a big ask!

But I don't really know your style so they may be too highnecked - there were loads more in black/navy/silver or TKMaxx

MissMillament · 26/05/2015 22:11

Thank you, KatyMac. It is my boobage that is the issue with the high necked dresses, much as I love the look. I love number 5 on your list, and I think no 6 is lovely as well, but probably wouldn't work on my because of my massive bazumbas. I tend to go for fairly plunging necklines but then the worry is that I have embraced the open-hearted dairymaid look more than is seemly for a lady of my advanced years. Number five looks like it might work though.

I love that gold Miss Selfridge one, Katymac. Worried I am too old and fat for it however. I've never had a pale coloured dress, as I usually play safe with black or navy but I am keen for something different this time.

It's so hard deciding isn't it (which one was that & I'll tell you if I'd wear it - size 14 32gg & 47!!)

Carpaccio · 26/05/2015 22:53

I really like this one: www.asos.com/Chi-Chi-London/Chi-Chi-London-Premium-Lace-Embroidered-Full-Tulle-Maxi-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=5293149&cid=8799&Rf-400=14147,14429&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Creamblack&totalstyles=47&gridsize=4

MissMillament · 27/05/2015 00:14

Number 7, Katymac!

Carpaccio, that is absolutely lovely but it is sheer at the back. Do you think you could actually wear a bra under it? I would definitely need one!

Tethers - that navy one in your last link is amazeballs, but I can't have navy Sad, it has to be a lighter colour (not navy or black basically). I love the sea blue one in your first link though - bonprix - seriously!

Katymac · 27/05/2015 02:26

I'd wear the style but not the colour, light colours don't really suit me - I have funny coloured skin Wink

I like the BonPrix one too

KillashandraRee · 27/05/2015 04:00

there are loads on Amazon

Zorion · 27/05/2015 07:33

To feel really glamorous... I would spend most of the money on having my hair done professionally, make up and manicure and great underwear, and HIRE the dress. girlmeetsdress.com is one site I've used but there are others out there.

homebythesea · 27/05/2015 07:37

Did you know that Oxfam has a website selling some of their nicer stuff? I bought a fab gown there a couple of years ago for £40.

Do you have any dress agencies where you are- also worth a look

I would also second the hire option especially if you are not like,y to wear it again

margaritasbythesea · 27/05/2015 08:05

good for your colouring and stretchy for boobs also comes in red

MissMillament · 27/05/2015 09:36

Love that one, Margarita.
They have some stunning dresses on Girl meets Dress, I never actually thought of hiring as an option but it is a good idea.
Love your second link Killeshandra.
Thanks guys, some much better options here than I managed to find for myself. I think I am still looking for the WOW dress though - maybe I need to hire. Or find some more money in the budget! Event is not till mid-July, is it worth waiting for a few weeks till the sales start?

I buy dresses for balls from here. They are really well made and in the UK. I always size up for boobage. They are on the other end of the phone and very helpful if you need any advice before you order.

MissMillament · 27/05/2015 10:10

OMG, TheFairy, I have spend half an hour on that website. I love it. What do you think of this one?
www.sexyher.co.uk/product-elegant-fish-tail-design-purple-evening-bridesmaid-formal-dress-446.html

or this one
www.sexyher.co.uk/product-gorgeous-long-evening-dress-with-beads-sequins-499.html

I notice they have built in bras. How does that work for the excessively endowed. Do you think they would give enough support?

OP posts:
MissMillament · 27/05/2015 10:12

This one?

OP posts:
homebythesea · 27/05/2015 15:14

The second one will make your boobs front and centre and not in a good way in my very humble opinion! Like the first but it's a bit wintry to me- you need the lightness of the fabric of number 2 with the bodice of number 1

homebythesea · 27/05/2015 15:15

Third one lovely but again dark which I thought you wanted to avoid?

MissMillament · 28/05/2015 09:57

You are right. Darker colours seem to predominate on that site. What about any of these. Bearing in mind I am 50 and all. Don't be afraid to say they are a bit mutton. Grin

pale green

or pale blue

gold

pink
