I need a haircut! But have no idea what I want or what to ask for.... Help!

I'm 35, work full time in a professional HealthCare role in the NHS, am a mum, and am also 24 week pregnant, short (5'3") and on the chunky end of the weight spectrum. I've had long hair for ages, but it just looks boring and messy - it's very fine so I have trouble wearing it up and it staying up - clips, elastics, grips all fall out within minutes. It's currently a bit layered at the front and less so round the back.... I guess I'm just fed up of having nothingy hair that always looks a bit scruffy - I'd like to look smarter at work, but happy to look like a scruff bag out of work!

My face shape is round / square (or as my dh would say, 'breeze block' - charming!).

I'm happy to style it in the mornings if I have a reason to - at the moment, I don't.

I've tried having a fridge in the past but they don't work in me as I have some weird hair growth pattern at the front which means it never sits flat. Can do a longer fringe though which is appealing as it covers my somewhat generous (intelligent) forehead.

Any ideas?! Or guidance? Anything at all would be helpful!

pixie cut? or pob? or get it chopped to shoulder length. I've got shoulder length hair and have perfected a couple of pin ups that take mere minutes on a morning but make me look very polished and put together. two seconds and I'll find pics haha.

Shoulder length may be the way forward... Pixie is too short for me I think, my face is too round and I think that style suits people with slimmer / more angular faces.

I'm the same, I think I have a 'breeze block head' haha. Can't find photos of pinups I mean, but it's like pinned half up(with a bump) and the other section twisted into little bits and pinned up GrinIYSWIM

Had a quick Google if styles for shoulder length hair which reassured me - doesn't have to be boring and non descript! Actually might be able to hold a style better without all the weight of long hair....Hmmmm. Now to find a half decent hairdresser who won't cock it up!

Once you have a style in mind, look up pictures on Pinterest and you can show them to your hairdresser.
I always do that because I know what styles I like but I'm no good at describing them properly.

My hair type is similar and I'm the same height, and I recently got a short graduated bob with a shorter back. I style it by creating waves and volume with straighteners and using some wax for definition. Love it and have had many compliments.

I'm liking the idea of a graduated long bob, I think ... Thanks all! Now I need to work out what to use on my hair to smooth out all the crazy little short hairs that seem to be growing at the moment, and make me look bonkers!

"I've tried having a fridge in the past" What went wrong with that? Grin
