outfil for xmas do's & wedding daytime reception

hi can anyone help with what i should wear for a couple of xmas doo's - old works daytime doo & mother & toddler group evening one & brother in laws daytime wedding reception?
i was hopping maybe to get something for all three but may need to buy perhaps a top for xmas doo's.
i am 35 yrs old size 12/14 38b. i would love to wear a stapless number but don't know whether i could carry it off?

My friend has just bought this this which she says is very flattering. She's wearing it with a shrug to a wedding, then taking the shrug off for the night do.

It has detachable straps and also comes in cream.
