Do you ever buy bespoke/made to measure clothes? Or alterations? Where can I get this?

Men have Savile row tailoring although it's expensive right?

I'm thinking specifically womens professional attire but could include casual wear too... I'm petite frame and height and find that mass produced clothes in most high street stores are ill fitting, I'd happily pay 5x more for one or two quality, made to measure or just plain altered outfits. Basically, I'd pay more, but I'm not made of money and don't want to spend £1k on something like a suit.

Does anyone do this, other than brides and wedding dress alterations? What is the best way? Buy an off-the-peg outfit in a bigger size up and find a local seamstress to alter it? Or find a bespoke retailer?

No idea where to start here...

I am a standard size but I get irritated that so many dresses and skirts I like are a couple of inches too short so, as long as they have a gem, I buy them and get them lengthened.
I also get straps altered or bodices altered. I do it a lot.

I don't use a local seamstress. I go to one of two tailors in town - both attached to specialist dry cleaners.

I make some of my own clothes.

Otherwise I think getting clothes tailored at teh dry cleaner is a very good option.

I am a pretty standard size so teh two experince I had of made to measure -- Hong Kong and Thailand were disssapointing. Stuff I had altered fit better than the made to measure but that was almost 20 years ago.

We have a sewing lady locally who alters clothes, makes clothes, curtains etc. I have never had clothes made, but she has done me some alterations and made me some curtains.
