Invited to a baby naming ceremony - what to wear?

We've been invited to a baby naming ceremony in August, which is going to be lovely, but I'm a bit stuck on what to wear. It's taking place at the parent's home, mid-afternoon, followed by food. DH is wondering whether to wear a suit - possibly too formal? I'm currently thinking something like a maxi dress and shrug (hopeful about the weather) but am really not certain if that will be too casual, and if I should dress up a bit. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hopeful bump - anyone?

It sounds fairly laid back. If I was your OH I'd wear a shirt with open collar ( but take a tie just in case!). I'd think a maxi dress would be fine too.

I agree, slightly more casual than a christening. No tie and maxi dress would be perfect.

This is what we did for our DCs. I'd go laid back. For ds's (in a barn) I wore flared jeans and a loose shirt; for dd's (at home), I wore a White Stuff dress. DH wore jeans for both.

Ask the parents?
