Ditched the straighteners....still damaging hair?

I decided on Saturday that enough was enough, and after nearly 15 years of daily (yes, daily...) GHD use my hair deserved a chance to regrow and repair. I've been wearing it curly ever since but am worried I am still not doing it any good. I blast dry my hair roughly til just damp (use hairdryer roughly, not close
to hair) and then I use my BBH to twist the bottom strands into curls at the end of the brush. I do this til dry and then style using hairspray, serum and dry shampoo on the 2nd day. I use a heat protection spray and a heat protecting serum on the ends when damp.

Is this enough to let my hair repair itself? I can't get the curls without the BBH and otherwise it's just a birds nest of a mess.

I have also bought a Toni & guy masque, to be used once a week to hydrate.

Is your hair coloured?
Do your products contain silicone?

I think the combo of colour + heat + silicone was the major culprit with mine. Stopped colouring and cut back massively on the others, as well as regular trims, and the condition is lovely. My hair dresser says it feels like children's hair. Doesn't look like it as very grey, which makes the texture / condition even more surprising.

Yes, home colour but colour nonetheless. Dark blonde, no bleach. I've bought the Tresemme (un)done range but have previously used john Freida go blonder range which is fab.

I've noticed a huge difference sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Also damp plaiting/ Bunning about half of washes blow dry the others. My hair has improved massively. At one point I straightened 2-3 times a day. Its a wonder I wasn't bald.
