Please help style idiot - jeans and footwear

Have seen that as well as style experts this forum also gives help to style idiots :) I am nearing 40 and still one of those. However I have acquired a surprisingly stylish 6yr old DD who says 'Please Mummy not THOSE boots when you pick me up' Grin

So I understand you don't wear mum boots with jeans. What DO you wear, either winter or summer? Am 5'9, 11 stone 13 and allegedly falling (dress size 12). Long legs and I confess to bootcut still being the only thing that looks passable on me. Jeans I buy are LTS as I need a 34" leg.

OK with modest heels but not generally a high heels type person and footwear must be able to cope with chasing six year old / dealing with shenanigans of 9 year old with SN.

Any offers? Thanks!

converse is the spring pickup footwear of choice round these parts ....

Jennifersrabbit · 10/05/2015 09:57

Okay - even for the very nearly 40?

I'm 46 just over very nearly 40 and I love my converse. I have a red pair and a burgundy pair.

Jennifersrabbit · 10/05/2015 10:06

Excellent - that answers my next question, whether I was allowed a red pair!

What's mum boots?

Agree with Converse. :)

ememem84 · 10/05/2015 10:12

converse.

or in the winter a nice pair of tan knee-high boots. worn over jeans

PrincessShcherbatskaya · 10/05/2015 10:18

With boot cut jeans I would wear a shoe or boot with a small thin heel probably with a pointed toe. Like a kitten heel. Converse fine in summer although personally I'm not sure about converse with boot cut jeans, I think it looks a bit dated. What about putting a pair of slim leg jeans with converse or sandals in summer?

MrsGuyGarvey · 10/05/2015 10:24

How about trying some other styles of jeans? Boot cuts can look dated. Boyfriend/girlfriend jeans or straight legs will all look better, try rolling them up a little. I'm older than you and wear converse (although no high tops), loafers, boat shoes & ballet flats in the spring/summer and ankle boots, Chelsea boots in the winter. The boots wouldn't look right with boot it's though, which is why I think you might feel more up to date in a different style, they don't have to be skinny.

Lovewearingjeans · 10/05/2015 10:30

Biker boots for me in Winter, and another Converse fan at not nearly 40. New Balance trainers are also popular.

Lovewearingjeans · 10/05/2015 10:31

If you don't like skinnies, try straight leg.

DuchessFanny · 10/05/2015 10:34

In these parts it would be straight or skinny, with a slight roll up at the ankle and superga/new balance/Adidas classics type trainers or sandals if it's warmer, especially gladiators

AnythingNotEverything · 10/05/2015 10:37

Step away from LTS. Lots of places do a 34 leg - Gap is my jeans shop of choice as I need a 34 too as I'm 5"10. Do try a straight leg. More flattering than a skinny but more modern than a boot it.

For shoes, converse or New Balance are good for any age IMO. As are Birkenstocks or a loafer or slipper type shoe.

burnishedsilver · 10/05/2015 10:40

I'm 43 and wearing converse or Ash virgo with jeans.

While all the magazines say that flares are back, when you look in the shops a lot of what they have is really a bootleg labeled as flares. I suspect that bootlegs might put you ahead of the fashion pack not behind it!

Also, try Gap Girlfriend jeans for Summer.

SycamoreMum · 10/05/2015 10:45

Red converse yes! Well i hope so because I've been wearing them since I was like 19 (i'm 30) Blush

Twinklestar2 · 10/05/2015 11:07

I wear skinny jeans of all colours tucked into brown flat ankle boots.

Or boat shoes like this in the spring shoes

Or Converse

Or flat strappy sandals

Jennifersrabbit · 10/05/2015 12:28

Thank you all! I shall work on it.

step away from LTS I do know what you mean Grin will try Gap if they do 34.

Boat shoes and loafers never seem to flatter me as to my mind I have boat feet (size 7-8 and wide), same problem with ballet flats. But will try the Converse and sandals.

This is a great resource, thank you!

Your feet are in proportion with your height though. Try an open toe if you feel like a clown Smile
