Hosting small dinner party for DH's boss and wife - what should I wear on my feet!!

Hosting a small dinner party for DH's boss and his wife - first time they have been to our home though we have been out before.

I am 26 and a slim blonde.

Planning to wear a red dress, but not sure what to wear in terms of shoes.

Don't want to wear heels as I will be cooking. Would leather mule slippers be ok or stocking feet?

I wouldn't wear slippers or stocking feet for a formalish work dinner party. Do you have a pair of ballet flats or brogues that would work with the dress?

Allalonenow · 06/05/2015 12:04

I'd say ballet flats too.

vixsatis · 06/05/2015 12:06

Ballet flats; or, if you don't want to buy new shoes, a pair of real ballet slippers- much prettier than slippers or stockinged feet but comfortable for cooking. These can be obtained for next to nothing on the internet in pink, black or red in satin canvas or leather

Oh thanks - they sound ideal do you know where I could get them online please.

Nooo, proper ballet shoes would look really weird.

Go for normal ballet pumps

I was in a similar position about a year ago. Hubby's boss and girlfriend came over for dinner.

Slippers seemed as inappropriate as heels so I just went in stockinged feet.

it was fine. in fact when we were having coffee boss' g/f took her high heels off too.!!

New Look have loads and reasonably priced.
ASOS as well.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 06/05/2015 13:42

I think it would be weird to wear actual ballet shoes too... They might expect an after dinner performance Smile

Dancergirl · 06/05/2015 14:23

For some reason wearing ballet shoes is making me think of the French and Saunders ballet piss take Grin

iwantgin · 06/05/2015 15:08

I wear flat shoes with a nice dress if entertaining at home.

Ballet flats are a compromise between slippers and more uncomfortable shoes.

Dancergirl · 06/05/2015 15:12

I must admit I tend to wear my slippers (with a nice outfit) when we have people round for dinner. I like to be comfy and no-one looks at your feet anyway.

But if it's dh's boss then I don't think slippers will do.

glamgirl12 · 07/05/2015 14:54

If I'm hosting I don't wear shoes -either socks, stockinged feet or slippers.

Lulu Guiness do some fab mule slippers that look really smart.

You can still wear a nice outfit and look good without heels.

Same visiting people -I would rather leave my heels at the door than risk shredding their carpet!!!

I'd probably just have bare feet with my toenails nicely painted.
