So I am mid 30's and have had bad skin for about the last 4 years. Used to work at home so wasn't a problem but now have a new job where I see people every day and have become more and more miserable by them. I currently have a huge mark approx 1cm x1cm on my face. Its awful. Tried to cover with makeup today but makes it stand out more. Have tried all sorts of washes, soaps, creams from chemist but always come back. Any ideas appreciated Sad

Look up the jan marini 5 step system it's worked absolute wonders for myself and my clients. (I'm an aesthetic nurse)

That's weird paxtecum, I've been off dairy and sugar for ages (paleo) and have got my first spot for a long time. After reading what you said I realised I had cheese and yoghurt a few days ago!

Citrus fruits/juices makes my acne flare up. So does dairy and white flour.

Sorry to hear that, it really got me down too.

First thing I would do is try to work out if you have any food intolerances. Dairy gives me really bad acne flare ups. I did a blood test a few years ago that helped me find this out.

Earlier this year I accidentally ate some dairy and it caused a huge flare up, which left bad scarring on one of my cheeks. A couple of days in I realised that an ice pack on my cheek reduced the swelling and chance of scarring a lot- but there was already some bad damage.

A month of alternating alpha-h liquid gold and alpha-h micro cleanse exfoliator has seen off those scars. I was astonished at how quickly they made a difference and the way they keep making a difference. I am down to a really a in prick sized mark on one cheek where the first and worst spot was, and I'm sure that another week or so using the products will see that off for good.

the radiant glowy skin that DH keeps commenting on is a bonus!

Another vote for the Effaclar range!

Does the onset of your bad skin coincide with having your coil ? Is ithe Mirena coil?

I believe it can cause spots- similar to the mini pill. Progesterone only hormones will aggravate skin that is inclined to acne.

I have/had crap skin always. Am now 47. sigh.. Dianette was the best treatment for me - totally cleared my skin, no oiliness at all. Currently on Spironolactone, via dermatologist which should act the same as the dianette but without giving me dvt risk.

Anyway - back to you. Could be your coil? Or could just be adult onset acne. I would go tothe GP. There are loads of different treatments and causes. For some people the face washes and otc items do work, but if not then you need the serious treatments.

Remember to change face towels and pillow cases frequently. Wash them at 60C too.
