I want highlights to hide grey roots but have ended up too blonde - what should I ask hairdresser for next time?

I have naturally brown hair with increasing grey strands appearing. I have had lot of highlights over the last few years to disguise the grey but now my hair looks very blonde which makes the regrow the quite noticeable.

Also the blonde seems to make my face look an odd colour, a bit yellows/sallow so I'm not sure I'm picking the most flattering colour option with these highlights.

I do love the look of highlights but how do you know what shades to ask for? When the hairdresser shows me the book of shades I find it hard to tell what the finished job will look like on me.

I have brown eyes, sallow olivey skin. Can anyone advise please? My next colour appointment is this week. Thanks

Your hairdresser should be able to advise you on tones that suit you best. Perhaps ask for something with less warmth in?

I did this.

I went to another hairdresser who was very into colour and got three colours put in - one that was close to my original colour, a warm mid-tone and a light one to blend in the greys. People used to complement me on this and thought it was natural!

You can keep doing this and it does not end up one colour. Not cheap though.

I have grown all my colour out after going through a one-colour phase. I am not happy with the grey look so I am going to try this again with colours that will warm it up.
