Anyone had a 'makeover' at Bobbi Brown counter? Do you have to book or just turn up?

I'm in desperate need of a new look and need some expert advice. I've heard good things about Bobbi Brown make up as I'm kind of after a natural look.
It's my 40th bday soon & DH said to treat myself to some new make up.
I'm very worried about wasting money though as I have in the past.

Has anyone had their make up done at a Bobbi Brown counter & did you feel that you had to buy there & then? Is it worth spending a bit more money but have fewer products?
i just want a nice natural look that lasts on my face longer than 2 hours and makes me look less knackered!

Bobby brown is amazing. I think if you just wanted a new foundation or something then you can just turn up, but if you want a total makeover then you prob need to make an appt. I didn't feel any pressure to buy there and then x

book. they have a range of ones they offer - eg eyes, or foundation. I just go for 'update'

this time of year is peak for bridal things, so booking is good

Jemster · 28/04/2015 21:05

Thanks Allie out of interest which of their products did you buy?

I have their BB cream which I really didn't need but bought last week and love, concealer and corrector, eyeliner, eyeshadow and a blusher. I didn't buy any of them as part of a makeover but now wish I had, but did buy them after trying out a crap load of other ones but realising I love them more so even if you do end up buying stuff there it wouldn't be a terrible investment! If you're worried you might buy everything and regret it then just say to yourself you'll only buy a max of 2 things there and then, tell the sales assistant you've only got the budget for 2 that day and ask her and decide which are the most vital for you.

Thanks Betty that's a good idea. I've heard the corrector & concealer are very good. This is my worst area, under my eyes, really dark shadows & I've bought & tried so many concealers. I just want one that works & makes me look less tired but without looking like I'm caked in make up. I wonder if I'm looking for the impossible sometimes.

they try and flog you twenty thousadn things as concealers. Just go and get the clarins one
things i rate are blusher ( buy the brush on ebay), the gel pencil eyeliner - literally stays on from 7am to 7pm and the lovely lipstick

AWholeLottaNosy · 28/04/2015 21:21

Dermablend are good for concealer

senrensareta · 28/04/2015 21:24

I get the long lasting cream eyeshadows, gel eyeliner, blusher and have a shimmer brick which I take on holiday as it can be used on eyes, cheeks, highlights, etc

BadgersArse · 28/04/2015 21:33

but the gel eyeliner pencil is the dogs bollocks

Jemster · 28/04/2015 21:44

anyone know if there's a charge for the booked makeover?

BadgersArse · 28/04/2015 21:51

Jemster · 28/04/2015 21:54

I don't know yet Badger I haven't got as far yet as deciding when or where to go, but Southampton is an option

I do like bobbi brown but when I went looking for a new foundation, I exited the store looking like I'd gone into acute liver failure. You know you're in trouble when the consultant says "I'm using bronzer to blend the foundation into yor neck" Confused. To be fair, most of their foundations are yellow toned and I'm more pink toned. Their shimmer brick is brill though.

BadgersArse · 29/04/2015 01:15

If you do let me know. Have rec there

tomanyanimals · 29/04/2015 07:23

I would book I really like there things but I am pale and no one else could make a good match I have pretty much everything an really rate it the tinted mouisturiser lasts all day with a light coverage the long wear last all day and night no top ups needed and a heavier coverage. It can take awhile for a make over so make sure your not in a rush especially if you want explanations of how to use individual products

RockMummy · 29/04/2015 07:54

Southampton Bobbi Brown in JL was a nightmare. All I wanted was a concealer. They demonstrated a couple of products and then refused to sell me just the one I wanted without buying the other. Needless to say I left with nothing and haven't bought a thing from them since! Sorry about that. I realise that was the last thing you wanted to hear OP. I still love their product though.

FuckyNell · 29/04/2015 07:58

How do I know which skin tone I am?

Allie82 · 29/04/2015 22:24

Hi Jemster I bought the skin foundation stick and I love it. I buff it in with a real techniques brush for a lighter finish. Because I made a purchase I got a free makeover appointment for another day, I think it's usually about £20?
I've since got the corrector and concealer but find them too thick.
