Struggling to find a dress for Ascot on budget of £50. Help please.

I need a dress for a day at Ascot in May but only have a small budget up to £50.00.
I would like something that could form part of a capsule wardrobe if possible so that I can easily wear it again for other occasions. I have bought things on impulse on the past and only worn them once as they haven't been quite right.
I've spent ages looking on line & most things are very colourful & patterned & above £50.00.

Any suggestions really appreciated.

If you suit the 50s look I'd definitely get a Lindy Bop dress in a neutral 'capsule wardrobe' colour but maybe with a polka dots or another pattern or with accessories to liven it up. They have a website or you can find them on Amazon, gorgeous dresses, nice fit and good material for under 50 - have one and am hoping to get DH to buy me another one for my birthday.

OP - is this for a particular meet and is there a dress code for your enclosure?

(also, what size/shape are you? Might help others suggest appropriate places to look Smile. )

Do you have any second hand dress agencies around? My local one has loads of Ascot type dresses in their window, and most are below the £50 mark.

eBay.

You could get something fabulous for £50.

I just bought a BNWT ball gown for £6. Grin

I would say it's do able. But not as something to build into a wardrobe.

eBay?

Jemster · 25/04/2015 08:03

Thanks - we'll be in the premier enclosure & it just says on website to dress as for a smart occasion.

I am 5'3, size 10/12 (more 12) pear shaped. I like shift shape dresses, they always seem to fit me well.

I have looked on ebay but worry about things not fitting & then not being able to return.

Generally those that look best at Ascot (imo) are those who play simple. Depending on your skin tone i would go for block colour maybe with some detailing in the fabric. I'd go for a navy a-line wrap dress with cream heels, a nice up do and jewelry. You could opt for something similar in a shift with detailing at the neckline? Try looking on Reiss and Hobbs for inspiration but then see if you can match this on ASOS. Oasis often have some nice dresses too, and not daftly priced.
