My nails have been fucked up by gel polish. What can I do?

I've had gel polish a few times but have a bad habit of peeling it off once it starts to come up at the edges - I know I know. So this time I decided I was going to be good and remove it properly by soaking in pure acetone and scraping off.

However, I can't get the last bits off at all - soaked them for a couple of hours in total, but there's still a thin, pitted layer which isn't even gougeable after soaking.

I've buffed them down a bit, and while they feel better, they still look crap! And the buffing has made them thin and easily broken so I've had to cut them really short.

So what should I do next? How can I make them look better and get them back to a good condition?

Nail oil should help.

My toenails were messed up after literally years of nail polish. Shock
I buffed them, gave them a rest from varnish for a week and applied almond oil everyday. (picked up the almond oil in the indian section of the supermarket)

Rub Vaseline into them as often as you remember, sound simple but it works!

Vaseline. Really works.

Interesting. I left gel polish on my toenails for a stupid length of time/picked bits off and they currently look pretty tatty. Will try both nail oil and Vaseline!

thanks guys. I will do exactly as I'm told.

Fighting the urge to just go and get another gel manicure to hide it...

Give it a week the Vaseline works a treat, better than any specific nail treatment I've tried.

Ooh that's good news - have been trying to work out how to prepare my toes before summer kicks in! Going to get the vaseline out now.

I had shellac nails in December and picked off the polish instead of doing it properly, and I think only now have my nails started to look a bit more healthy.
