I'm going to Sydney at the end of this month for three weeks with four days down to a friend in the Barossa Valley in Adelaide. Also have three day weekend trip just outside of Sydney with some friends.

I always end up packing too much or taking the wrong things or taking things just because and they don't go with anything else. So I would like to try planning my packing so that I have a good combination of things that will go together and that I won't get bored with.

Weather wise it will be fairly similar to here although it is coming into winter. Was there at same time last year and it was warm and sunny.

Complications should you accept this challenge! I'm 50. Size 20. Apple shaped. Colour wise am a winter.

Looking forward to suggestions!

I travel a lot and so I try and think of a theme. Invariable my theme is nautical, because I am drawn to bretons! That way everything goes together.

So as a winter, you need to choose maybe two colours that suit you and that you have a lot of in your wardrobe, plus neutrals (black, white, grey, navy, again whatever you have). Then everything should go.

I do something like:
black denim shorts, black bistro crops, black tube skirt, dk grey merino jumper, plain white t shirts. (neutrals)
long sleeve heavy breton, anchor print dress, short sleeve breton, plain navy and white t shirts, loose cotton embroidered tops, navy and white stripey shorts (theme!)
Then the colour pop - red trousers (I know but I love them!), a red cotton silk scarf (useful for the plane and beach too!), red gel nails, red lipstick, maybe a red t shirt.

I find accessories hardest but wayfarer sunglasses go with everything, navy posh sandals and black birkenstocks and I travel in converse. I don't take heels but you could take a pair of wedges if you are going to do anything more formal. Those longchamp bags are great as beach bags, hand luggage bags etc. I usually travel with a small handbag outbound so I can allow for shopping and use the longchamp one on the way back!

I learned this from my mother who is a very glamourous traveller - her summer trips are bright orange, purple, cream and navy, her winter trips are khaki and navy with red and orange!

Oh thanks so much! That all sounds doable and sensible.

Your mum sounds fab!

I have a Longchamp in a dark orange colour. Not exactly winter but it's a bag! Goes well with navy, black and gray.

I have a stone colour jersey blazer so that should go with most things for evenings. I love stripes/Breton tops and have a few.

Will probably travel in Next Harem pants. Silver Birkenstocks. Black loose tshirt and a soft cardigan - sort of black and white mottled. i have a nice black and white stripped scarf too.

I would like to find a nice handbag to take. Shoulder bag with a long strap. I have mostly big bags but would like something smaller. Not sure what colour though.
