what to wear on a night out.

I'm going to a very grown up hen night in a few weeks, dinner a play and some drinks afterwards.

I never go "out" so I'm very out of touch with what to wear. I'm 36 and a size 18.

I've looked at every site I can think off. Even if I do see something I like I panic that it will be too dressy/ casual.

So what would you wear if you were going on this night out?

I am posting as I too have no idea

I never know what to wear to the theatre or out for drinks.

I hate being too dressy even more than I hate being too dressed down.

It's such a hard thing to dress for. I'm thinking heels and slim trousers but I'm having trouble finding a nice top, or a dress but I'm having trouble finding a nice one the will flatter my big tum. It seems to be all body con or slightly frumpy.

I would get something from Lindy Bop as their dresses are reasonably priced and flattering I find.

I could be way off the mark though, what's your usual style?

Where have you looked so far?

I've looked everywhere and I've seen some nice things but panic that it's just not right.

My usual style is something a bit plain/ conservative and dress it up with accessories. A plain dress with biker jacket and scarf or plain jeans/ trousers and top and dress up with jewellery. I can do casual quite well (I think) it the combination of theater and drinks ( and current size) that's got me in a tizz.

I did this last night! I navy, khaki & white paisley harems, a white vest, navy blazer, sandals and a necklace with lots of rows of silver beads. Harems aren't for everyone do could do dark jeans & heels, pretty top & blazer?

ManicPixieDream · 12/04/2015 09:36

Gem is right you could dress up jeans with a blazer and dressy shoes.

This would be a safe option as jeans are casual but blazer would look smart.

I love dressing up and would wear a 50's style dress and not care if everyone else was more casual Wink

Dress and biker sounds fine. Personally, I dislike jeans at the theatre. Also, my personal opinion again and I know lots of people on here like them, I'd say not a Lindybop type dress - they look (imvho) like fancy dress.

Where do you normally get dresses from? What styles/colours do you like? How much do you want to spend?
