If I go to a good hairdresser, will they sort me out?

Well not all of me, but my hair at least?

My hair's very fine and. I don't think the colour's right for my skin tone. I don't think the style's right to make the most of it. I hate pictures of me because of my hair, I think it looks so straggly and limp and lanky and I am actually getting quite upset with it.

I've damaged it with years of hair extensions-but they're the only thing that make me feel confident.

What I'd like to do is walk into a hairdresser and say 'Please pick me a style and colour that suit and make me look my best' and them to do it. But I know my current hairdresser isn't the sort to do that, they just trim the ends and if I ask about colours they just smile and nod!

Can you find pictures that you would like to try? This helps hairdressers get an idea of what you are saying. Can anyone recommend a hairdresser to you. I think some hairdressers are more 'safe' than others.

Have you thought about something shorter and funky that you can boost up a bit?

Agree with PP - get some pictures and change your hair stylist. Go in saying you want a restyle and you would appreciate some creative input from them.

Thanks :)
Well, as for pictures, I obviously have it wrong so far so I don't want to pick pictures because I'll likely pick something very wrong. I think I'm being unrealistic by wondering is there any 'service' that could TELL me what suits me rather than me decide-because I really really don't know what'll suit me at all. I just know what I have now, straggly, flyaway hair, does not suit me, I look at pictures of me from the back and curse!

I think I might have to take the plunge, go to a proper salon and say 'HELP!'. :)

Apologies, for some reason I seem to have gone back onto an old username, never mind. I am the OP!

Go on, post a pic here, people are usually good here at giving compliments and useful advice I've never actually dared myself, though

I feel the same. My hair is so fine, it looks rubbish. I got my haircut last week and took a photo, and the end result is nothing like the photo! I ended up with the angled Bob I always end up with. The hairdresser was young though, maybe a more experienced stylist would be different.

I've got a feeling different salons have set styles that they do and that's it!

I will try and add the photo I took in, this is supposed to work on fine hair....

If I go to a good hairdresser, will they sort me out?

The lob (long bob) is the in style at the moment, or something like Sienna Miller's current bob. I have fine hair and chopped it all off into a pixie nearly two years ago, after 38 years of fine long hair, and haven't looked back. I took in pictures of Michelle Williams pixie, though I have tried various different versions since. I do have a great hairdresser though, who listens to me, but then discusses the cut and why it will/ won't work. I live in the wilds of Suffolk, and my hairdresser is in a small town, so you don't have to go to big cities for great hair!

I would go for a no obligation consultation with a really good hairdresser for ideas, asking him / her exactly the question you have asked here. The better hairdressers are very good at this, and will also ask about your lifestyle to get a sense of what works for how you live

AkkerDemik · 12/04/2015 18:31

Have a good long play with a site like this and when you've worked out what you'd like, print it off or save it to your phone and take it into a good hairdressers.

JoyceDivision · 12/04/2015 18:39

op where do you live/ (not your full address, just the area Grin ) because there will be mumsnetters who can recommend a good hairdresser, or ones to avoid...
