I'm a 16/18. 18 on top. I have straight skinny legs and no hips. Not much waist either. Big boobs and big arms etc. Biggish tummy. Buying clothes is a nightmare and making me upset. It's the bottom half that's the worst I'm functioning with 2 pairs of trousers at mo. Everything looks awful on me and I just can't find anything to wear. Does anyone have any good tips for me please. Also what shops, websites to use. I can't afford designer so the most expensive I can go is marks and Spencer prices. All advice greatly appreciated!

You could try this.dressipi.com

Maybe you could try a bra intervention on here from some lovely mumsnet tears and then go from there.

Tunic type longer tops and bootcut trousers/jeans to balance you out?

The longer top will hide your bum if trousers don't do it any favours.

trappedinsuburbia · 10/04/2015 10:43

Im the same shape but different sizes to you btw.

SanityClause · 10/04/2015 10:51

It sounds to me like you might be more of an inverted triangle shape. Do you have wider shoulders than hips?

If so, what about simple fairly fitted tops, with a fuller skirt (it sounds like you have nice legs, so get them out!).

Karmaone, I'm similar size and shape I think. I don't know what to wear either Sad I have spent the winter in leggings or jeggings with long jumpers, but now the weather is a bit warmer I'm stuck. I have one pair of black linen trousers from Peacocks that are ok, but really struggle with tops, as fitted ones seem to accentuate my lack of waist and my spare tyre Blush I did start a thread further down, and had some suggestions there, if you want to have a look.

The thread title is "I've put on weight, need new summer wardrobe ".

Karmaone · 11/04/2015 00:15

Thanks everyone. Will look at all suggestions. 2fat, I will look at your thread. I do like the wide legged linen trousers but find it hard to find proper A line skirts without pleats etc. Sanity I do think I'm inverted triangle shape. I really do need to lose weight but need some clothes in the meantime. Been out shopping today and had a melt down after as it was so depressing!

A line skirts don't really suit me, I prefer knee length straight skirts, but struggle to find summer casual ones I like.

Maraki · 11/04/2015 07:14

I get by with straight cut jeans (not skinny), slim fit M&S trousers for work and either long (bum covering) t shirts / tops or shirts which are a size up (I also wear DH's shirts). Shift or slightly A line dresses with long cardigans. Skirts are tricky, fit and flare dresses a disaster. Heels and chunky shoes (eg espadrilles) balance your top half.

2fat4that · 11/04/2015 20:27

Maraki, where do you buy tshirts and tops?

I prefer straight jeans too, but do struggle to find ones that aren't too tight around my (37 inch) waist and yet not too baggy on my bum.

Karmaone · 11/04/2015 21:42

2fat I'm also interested to know where people buy their clothes. I really struggle to find anything in the high street.

I'm a 16-18 and I buy lots of stuff on the high street - but I size up a lot so things hang better and aren't close fitting. So for example in primark I will go for a 20 in a top and new look online they have a plus section "inspire" I go for a 18-20. Asos also do a range called "curve" which is very high fashion and pretty good.

I am a big fan of marks and spencers for jeans (oddly enough I take a 14 in their jeans!) And also Next jeans are lovely. Marks and spencers have just done some 70s flared jeans (if you search flared jeans they come up) which are very flattering.

I also like Yours and Evans for basics. I've seen Yours slated quite a bit on here and yes some of the stuff is truly awful but you do get the odd bargain and their basic jersey tops are nice and long enough to hide my bum.

2fat4that · 11/04/2015 23:07

I never see anything I like at Evans, but have had a few things from Yours.
