this one

BUT, I can't decide if yellow is best left to my 5yo & have no idea what shoes/accessories to wear with it, if I wear it.

Anyone any suggestions?

(I used to be good at this bloody stuff pre-dc Confused )

if it suits your colouring wear it! I look awful in yellow and feel envious. Navy accessories/shoes would look good.

Hassled · 09/04/2015 22:32

I really like that yellow - you're on far more dangerous ground with a washed-out, pastelly sort of yellow. Accessories - blue? I'm equally crap at that sort of thing.

I hadn't thought about teaming it with darker colours! That might actually help a bit with the confidence to wear it, I wear dresses very rarely these days despite owning some nice ones.

Maybe a bigger belt around the waist? Something with a jewel buckle or flower...& navy heels. I don't think I have either of those though so will have to have a hunt in the shops.

It's almost exactly the same dress. I picked mine up in Primarni for a fiver years ago now but have never worn it.

It had a really skinny gold belt with it but I couldn't get that to sit right & gave up on the whole thing.

It was actually dp who suggested I dig it out to wear - I had spied something else to save for (which I might still get)

Very happy combination

Any idea where to look, as a starting point, for a big belt that's not too pricey? I imagine shoes will be easy enough to find.

I love yellow but the few times I have worn it in summer, I have been covered in tiny black flying bugs. Last time was as DS's sports day - I sat there inundated with the little buggers while everyone else was fine.

So I'm not sure I'd wear it to a special occasion, especially if there was much hanging around outdoors having photos or drinks.

Sorry.

lucysmam · 09/04/2015 23:05

oh no Sad

I don't want to attract bugs.

Although I don't think there'll be much outdoors-ness. There's no professional photo's, just snaps on phones/cameras and the reception's in a working men's club.

The other dress I was looking at is white with a floral print. Bet that'd attract bugs too Confused

She's already vetoed green...I also have a rather lovely green chiffon dress that dp bought me last summer and I have never worn.

I'll see what else I have, take some snaps in the mirror and see what I look like.

Love the yellow dress. If a belt is essential (I hate belts they make me look short) then I'd go with toning not contrast and something really light (eg plastic buckle) so it doesn't sag. I think unless you are dramatically hourglass or very tall that drawing a line across your waist isn't going to be flattering.

I like the idea of navy heels. You could also add a navy cropped jacket? Grey also works with yellow, provided they're tonally similar. Or turquoise?

I like that yellow! Blue goes with yellow well. As the previous poster said, make sure the intensity of the blue colour is the same as yellow.

Pumpkinette · 10/04/2015 03:33

Grey also goes really well with yellow if you don't fancy navy.

Rudy, atm it's reddish brown - 3 inches of roots are slightly darker than the rest.

I was debating saving to go back to blonde though, in need of a change.

I have some neutral bits I think, definitely some lighter heels, I'll try it with those too.

My sister had a bright yellow jumper and had the same problem with little bugs sitting on it.
