Need help choosing a coat, please.

I really need a new coat - I have a black wool reefer jacket that has seen better days (worked out I got it when ds1 was a baby so it's 9 years old!)

I like that big buttoned wool coat in Boden (and if I get 9 years' wear out of it I can sort of justify the price...) but can't decide between green (not sure about the red buttons) or grey.
Boden coat Plus, if I did get the Boden one, should I get a 12 or a 14 (am a 12, but often buy a 14 top to accomodate norkage - and will want to wear jumpers underneath)?

There are also a couple in Next I like red textured and red double breasted

I mostly wear jeans, and browns, greens, blacks...

Any suggestions?

Prefer the red textured one.

Have just bought this one which I think is fab value - here Looks better in the flesh.

I really like that, Tinker - hood would be good too. I somehow wanted to look more 'tailored' though, you know? Though I may be kidding myself as I don't have much by way of a waist (apple shape rather than pear).

Know what you mean. I wanted smart but then thought I'd need one for weekends as well. Think a duffle sort of covers both ish.

GraceUnderFire · 01/11/2006 19:12

I do like it...

And it's half the price of the Boden one.

Ohhhhhh...I am so crap at making decisions.

Hate buying coats - so expensive if make a mistake. Agree red is the way to go though, goes with everything.

GraceUnderFire · 01/11/2006 19:18

I know. Dh pointed out to me that the reefer jacket is not the only coat I've had in the last 9 years - I bought a khaki parka a couple of years ago, felt like Michelin man in it, and looked round the playground one day and realised I was just one of an army of women in khaki parkas.

Sold it on ebay.

Well, if I only had one coat I would buy black as it goes with everything in my wardrobe and can "smarten up" for work. I would get a single-breasted kind of crombie coat style or a funnel neck, and not double breasted if I were large of nork. If it were the Boden I would get grey. Or maybe this: boiled wool coat . Wow, can't believe the new topshop site!

GraceUnderFire · 01/11/2006 23:02

If I go for the Boden one it will definitely be the only winter coat I have this year and for the forseeable future

Quite like that Top Shop one too (new site is much better than the old one where you scrolled along a line of clothes, isn't it?)

Still can't decide. Shall sleep on it.

say noooo to the boden one - you'll be bored of those buttons next year and the patch pockets will sag. Like the flattering vertical seams on the boiled wool one; also like the shape of the red textured on.

Have you tried M&S - great coats this season.

GraceUnderFire · 02/11/2006 09:36

I could always change the buttons...15% off at Boden today...I've looked at M&S online...(I've looked everywhere online!)...I'm going to end up in my cagoule at this rate

My lovely shopping trip with friend to buys winter coat and drink latte (which have been looking forward to a la child anticipating Christmas all week) has been derailed by DS1 vomitting all night so now need buy coat online to avoid freezing to death...anyone seen thsoe Topshop coats in real life? Are they thick and warm?

MrsBadger · 02/11/2006 12:26

Capp, have you seen the buttons? They're orange!
