Where can i get fashionable/sportyish shorts to buy?

I've looked in so many shops, all i find are mum shorts, baggy shorts not three quarter length but can't seem to decide where to end shorts, shorts you can't bend in without showing your knickers, shorts that flap about.

They're all just too short these days.

I'm looking for well fitted shorts that don't end at my crotch, i don't mind if they are three quarter length shorts so long as they are well fitted. i saw some by 'Bench' online but they were sold out. I also don't mind if they are short so long as they cover the top half of my thighs and fitted.

Does anything like this exist?

I'm not sure if you mean for day wear or for sport? J crew do a lot of day wear shorts in varying lengths. Sweaty Betty have nice shorts for sport. Are either of those what you are looking for?

to be honest i usually combine both, depending on how I'm feeling. If just going to shops, round the house etc i wear the sporty ones, if going out then the day ones i suppose, but i kind of lean more towards the 'sporty' look but not too cropped if that makes any sense...

I love the J crew shorts but the prices are sky high. i couldn't spend £50 on a pair of shorts but they are very much like the type of cut i'm looking for.

The SW ones are too short.

Perhaps you could link to the bench ones? I tend to wear capris for the gym and then if I do wear shorts for the day I do avoid anything too sporty. My nicest pair of shorts in recent years was from Mint Velvet but similar priced to J Crew. Zara seems to have quite a few pairs for around £20-30 if that is better and some are longish.
