Night out at indie club, my clothes are crap

Going out tomorrow night, i don't have time to go shopping, what can I wear so I don't look like a 42 year old mother who hasn't been out for months which I am

I've dug out a dress which is a bit like this (but imagine it on someone size 14): www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=10796325

Or a top I could wear with skinny jeans similar to this:cdnb.lystit.com/photos/2011/10/31/juicy-couture-black-lace-shift-dress-product-1-2281279-543080069_large_flex.jpeg

Which one? And what do I put on my feet?

Just realised the links are the wrong way round sorry!

Jeans and top with leather jacket and boots.

I go to loads of indie gigs/bars and they are usually pretty laid back and casual.

soupmaker · 02/04/2015 18:32

The grey dress as a top with skinny jeans in black or grey and a pair of boots or converse. Have fun.

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/04/2015 19:01

Gah, two opposite opinions! I don't have a leather jacket so would have to wear the top as it is. Not thought about trying the dress over jeans, will see what it looks like.

Can't you stay in and watch telly Grin

CremeDeSudo · 02/04/2015 19:23

I'd do the dress with boots so it's dressed down. I think the top is a bit dressy unless you have a jacket or something you can 'rock it up' with although I agree that you probably shouldn't overthink it. Indie bars are laid back!

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/04/2015 19:53

The stupid thing is I used to be in indie clubs all the time, I'd normally just wear jeans and a band t-shirt or something. But I hardly go out any more so my wardrobe is mainly work clothes or jeans and jumpers, and I can't fit into my cool clothes any more.

Sorry to be so needy but if I wore the dress with skinny jeans would you think short boots or long? The only black ones I have are long. My only decent ankle boots are brown. Would it look weird with high heeled shoes?

Or dress with black tights and long boots??

notmadafterall · 02/04/2015 20:01

I love that dress. Do you have a pair of flats or trainers that you could wear with it? Or are trainers with dresses naff these days? Blush

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 02/04/2015 20:03

Dress down for an indie club.

lottiesatitagain · 02/04/2015 20:06

No not knee highs. What other shoe options do you have?

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/04/2015 20:15

My shoe collection is pitiful. Here are my options:

Converse
Black long boots
Black High heels
Black t bar low heels (normally wear for work)
Brown ankle boots
Black flats that are quite old and a quite scuffed
Red flats
Flip flops Grin

I always used to wear trainers with dresses but it doesn't seem to look right now, maybe I'm too old for it??

OP posts:
notmadafterall · 02/04/2015 20:33

Personally I would go for black dress and red flats .

misssmilla1 · 02/04/2015 20:40

the top, skinny jeans and brown ankle boots. Think the dress is too dressy unless you pair it with opaque tights or similar and flat shoes or boots

GothicRainbow · 02/04/2015 20:47

Dress with brown boots and a denim jacket or skinnies, top and converse

mewkins · 02/04/2015 21:04

Dress or top, skinnies and converse (as long as they don't have a no trainers dress code!)

notmadafterall · 02/04/2015 21:06

I think the only way forward with this is if you post photos of yourself in said outfits!

soupmaker · 02/04/2015 21:22

Brown ankle boots would be grand with skinny jeans and the dress. I lived in indie clubs in the 90's and I think the dress is fine as long as it's dressed down.

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/04/2015 21:36

I've just thought, I also have a skater type dress a little bit like this: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/0e/7d/45/0e7d45a80a6b639bfb83a9df96a3a0bf.jpg

Could I wear that with skinnies and brown boots? It's navy blue.

notmadafterall · 02/04/2015 21:43

Yes I'd wear the spotty dress, but with flats or converse. It's a lovely dress.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 02/04/2015 21:44

The black dress with tights and flats

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/04/2015 21:48

If I wore the skater dress with flats or converse would black opaque tights be ok? I can't get my legs out. Our do you mean with skinny jeans?

OP posts:
notmadafterall · 02/04/2015 21:51

I'd go black opaque tights. Skinny jeans might be a bit bulky (for me anyway).

notmadafterall · 02/04/2015 21:52

Love your username by the way Grin

it's managed to replace a nursery rhyme that's been in my head for days, so thank you.
