What "outerwear" will you wear in Spring? (utterly clueless)

I'm 40, reasonable figure, although short. I am pretty clueless when it comes to fashion, and tend to copy what I see around me. So, this spring I intend to wear a uniform of skinny jeans with converse and top (breton? haven't got one yet) or flared jeans with high wedges & top/blouse (nope, haven't actually got one of them yet either!) or a casual dress with sandals.

I live in Ireland though and the weather isn't always well behaved. So what the hell do I wear on top of my clothes?! I don't have a huge amount of money so need to make sure I buy the right thing, something that will go with most outfits (is that even possible?) and won't cost the earth. I have a nice denim blazer from Gap, years old but could still wear it but other than that I have no idea.

I need ideas please

HELP!

I bought that Tesco one last night while on the last minute Easter egg run sans offspring, I like it, its not perfect but for its purpose (light weigh school run weekends @ park etc) its fine. I got the 16 but thinking of ordering the 14 now as its quite big fitting.

This one is nice from Uniqlo. It has a lining so can be quite lightweight. Having said that, I think I'm sending mine back as I don't need it.Shock

i wear my trench coat (mid thigh) or leatherjacket. If it is totally pissing down then I put on my cagoule. Easter Grin

I like the look of some of these suggested though.

Normally throughout spring and right up until probably October, I wore a denim jacket I got from River Island a good few years ago. Although it doesn't fit me anymore as I'm pregnant, for some reason I've kept it just for the fact that it's lasted so well!
It goes with most clothes too, whether it's a maxi dress in the Summer or with leggings, boots/flat shoes and a top in spring.

Sorry only getting chance to reply now. Its lovely on, the waist can be fitted using a pull cord thingy on the inside and it looks really nice done up and cinched in at the waist. I bought the size 8 in case I wanted to wear it over a jumper. I know a lot of reviews saying it comes up big but to be honest I find it fits fine, maybe the sizing is a bit wrong as the sizes go up? I am a small 8, wear size 6 tops in Tesco and the 8 in this jacket is fine for me.

Still hoping to get a trench coat for wearing to work and over more "dressy" outfits.

Appreciate all the advice, thanks Smile

Thanks, they sound true to size, will order my usual size. The style is perfect for casual wear.

I got a great waterproof jacket from ASOS a couple of years ago. I suppose you could describe it as an oilskin type of fabric. It is less flimsy than a cagoule, and lined. The only problem is that because it is totally waterproof, it is not breathable at all. It was £39.

I wear my cropped leather jacket, but if it is too cold I wear my lovely Barbour wax jacket
