If you tint your own eyebrows, can you tell me about it please?

I've realised I get a better result from my threading appointments if I don't get a tint at the same time, and I'd also like to save some money by doing the tinting myself.

If you tint your own eyebrows, where do you get the dye from please? How do you actually do it as well? I have dark blonde hair naturally, that I dye dark brown and I like to take my eyebrows a few shades darker so they don't look odd with my hair. They're sort of natural mid-brown, I'd say.

I buy stuff from Boots and do lashes/brows. For brows I buy a kit by Colorsport - you basically dip a cotton bud in liquid, rub it over your brows, wait a couple of minutes, then "activate" the colour with gel on a little comb, remove, and it's done. I use cotton pads to remove it, them usually cleanse my face. For lashes I use Dyebrow, which used to be Dyelash. Brows take about five minutes in total, lashes about 20. Be careful that if any of the colour drips onto your basin or whatever to get it cleaned immediately as it stains really, really quickly.

I buy brown dye and developing drops from Amazon, mix into a paste and put it on w disposable mascara wands (from Amazon). I do this in the shower, so just wash it off after a few minutes. I'm blonde and my eyebrows are naturally invisible, esp towards the outer ends.

i get mine from capital hair and beauty, www.capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk/beauty/eyelash-enhancement/eyelash-tinting/strictly-professional-eyelash-tint-15ml-black.html
and

its really easy to do, i paint on where i want to and then wash off after 10mins - these last for ages

I have dark brown hair, dark lashes with lighter roots and tips, and slightly lighter brows. I use Colorsport 30 Day Mascara in Dark Brown (from Boots etc, about £7, lasts several applications) on both lashes and brows. Mix up paste (tube) and liquid (bottle) to a mascara-like consistency and apply - I usually use an old clean mascara wand rather than the applicator provided as that gives me better coverage. Leave it on for about 10min for lashes and about 5 max for brows otherwise they go a bit scary, swipe off with cotton wool, then rinse. Lots. It works well - hurts like a bugger if you get it in your eyes, but rinses out easily enough. I am a lot more skilled at it than I was at first - used to almost always get it in one or both eyes as I was trying to get it as close to the roots as possible Confused and now almost never.

Be careful, as it does stain everything else - your skin, the sink, any fabric... so have a damp cloth and cotton buds handy to wipe up any excess from surfaces and from your face (unless you are after a new beauty spot too!).

If you've not done it at home before, for lashes, I'd recommend doing one eye at a time (in case you do get it in your eye and need to see to wash it out) and do both brows at the same time but don't leave it on for more than a minute or two til you've worked out how long is right for you - repeat til you get the shade you want.

I would like to do this but my eyebrows are so sparse that I don't think I could avoid getting dye on my skin - does it stain?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 29/03/2015 15:41

The eyebrow dye I use doesn't stain my skin. But I just wash it off in the shower, after a couple of minutes.

I have bald spots and the dye doesn't stain. I buy a box dye from Boots. It's so easy I wish I'd thought of it years ago.

I also use this (not sure if mine is L'Oreal though) daily, and it makes such a difference. Takes 30 seconds to do. www.boots.com/en/LOreal-Paris-Brow-Artiste-Genius-Kit_1655111/
