Any ideas?
He wears jeans and trainers or walking boots and tshirt and fleece and walking gear type waterproof or over head jacket
Very Mr outdoors hiking (job wears uniform)
Looking middle aged boring
He wants something different but not too scary change
Step one
He is interested in a jacket for going to pub etc with jeans and trainers and shirt or tshirt but not his waterproofor fleece . He saw a jacket he quite liked can't seem to link but it's matalan 'jeff banks 24:7 textured blazer' any other ideas? Also better fit (it was a bit short and sack like on)
He is tall (6 foot) broad shoulders 43 chest slim build 32 waist 32 long legs
Age 49 greying.

Fat Face or White Stuff? The former is cheaper, especially in their sale. My husband lives in their half zip sweat tops and polo shirts. Or is that what he's wearing? Then progress to something more fitted/smart?

tigersack · 24/03/2015 21:47

He lives in half zip fleeces and normal tees
He's happy like that for day. Wants something else yes - smarter and 'age appropriate ' not boring but classic. When not outdoors and walking wants a smarter classic look that's still easy to wear

He likes the idea of a wool type blazer
Not ££ unless fab quality and classic

I second Fat Face. DP buys a lot of casual clothing from Cotswold Outdoor, North Face and Blacks (fleeces, outdoorsy shoes and trousers )but buys more smarter stuff from FF.

Re. jacket- Marks and Spencers have some nice ones. Something like this might do the trick; although plenty of places do them it’s hard to get a reasonably priced one that doesn’t have rare elbow patches or patch pockets. Believe me; I have spent the last year looking for ‘the perfect blazer’ with DBoyfriend. M&S frequently do 20% off events which will save a bit of dolla. That grey will go particularly well with dark jeans which he probably has plenty of. Just make sure they’re not bootcut.

Shoes-wise, he could do worse than a pair of desert boots or shoes. Clarks Originals do a whole range which are excellent quality, but if he’s not going to be doing big mileage something like these from Next might do the job.

Slim fit chinos could also be a good call. GAP have come out with newly designed khakis which have a much more modern silhouette than their previous efforts. You want to minimise the flap, although these are still roomy enough in the thigh to allow for his walker’s legs. All Saints do some very good ones but they’re pricier; Dboyfriend gets his out of there and he is not an All Saints kinda guy normally. If he baulks at ‘slim fit’, remind him that it’s ‘slim’, not ‘skinny’.

I also recommend Banana Republic - it's helped me to smarten up my husband who previously lived in slogan t-shirts he'd had since university and jumpers his mum bought him. They have nice casual shirts/polo shirts/ jumpers that are quite classic and plain. He also got a nice smart/casual jacket from Debenhams.

What also worked was lots of positive compliments every time he tried anything on! Wink
I also found that now he's realised how much better and less like an overgrown teenager he looks, he's been much more confident and proactive at buying new things.
