The fat arms spring and summer support thread

afghanda · 23/03/2015 10:40

I dread spring and summer because my arms are HIDEOUS AND MUST BE COVERED AT ALL TIMES. Vests look bloody awful on me, but when it's hot there's not a lot of other options.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where we could all post links to fat arm friendly tops and dresses that are suitable for warm or hot weather when we find them.

OP posts:

Trust me, the arms are mottled (corned beef) and goose fleshy, despite hours and years scrubbing away with the loofah. They also have loose skin near the armpit too due to advancing years.

You can't really see them in all their glory in those pictures but trust me, they are commented on A LOT.

Frostycake · 23/03/2015 17:17

I have a few of those LandsEnd tops, they're great.

Monsoon used to do excellent, split sleeved, arm-covering tops but I haven't seen any for a few years now.

Namechanged101 · 23/03/2015 17:21

Good thread OP but I would swap my arms for yours - lost a lot of weight and now have baggy bingo wings not a good look!
Cold shoulder t shirts saved me last year

WicksEnd · 23/03/2015 17:31

That silk Cape is gorgeous Chewbecca.

I have horrible, skinny, corned beef arms, with no shape as I never exercise. I might Nick the kids weights and try and get a bit of shape in them. They do look better with a bit of gradual tan though, takes away the blueness Grin

carrie74 · 23/03/2015 17:36

I think the arms in the photo look fine, BUT I also think arms are one of the easiest part of the body to sort out through exercise. I would get some decent weights (maybe starting at 3 kg, but 5kg better), and check out curl and presses, upright rows, tricep extensions, also press ups, tricep dips, planks. FWIW, a local personal trainer posts weekly workouts on Twitter (5-10 mins to be performed daily: I do them as soon as I get up), which you may find doable. Let me know if you'd like his twitter handle.

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 17:37

i like the asos top and the 'cape' ( its a kimono surely)

does the kimono join at the front? looks like it in one pic

Floisme · 23/03/2015 17:38

Pah to arm exercises - life is far too short. Just wear sleeves, people Grin

noddyholder · 23/03/2015 17:46

Cape is very nice

Heels99 · 23/03/2015 17:57

Those arms in the picture are lovely, I aspire to arms like that!

ChoclolateOrange · 23/03/2015 18:04

My arms have always been my worst feature. Everything that could possibly be wrong with them from fat, to keratosis pilaris, hairy, you name it! I look forward to any ideas for this summer with anticipation.

Great idea for a thread!

Chewbecca · 23/03/2015 18:10

Nice to have affirmation for my 'cape'!

You just pop your arms through it and it goes across your back only if that makes sense?

doctorboo · 23/03/2015 18:42

Chewbecca I love that!

TBH I'm a leg hater more than an arm hater. My upper underside of the arms have v.pale stretch marks on them (thanks genetics and yoyo weight) and I wear cotton cropped cardi's to hide them when I feel self conscious.

Oly4 · 23/03/2015 19:08

Wow, beautiful arms!!!
I never look at people's arms and think they are hideous. However, I do wonder why some women wear long sleeves and silly
Bolero things on summer. Honestly, try and tone them up but I bet they're not as bad as you think

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 23/03/2015 19:23

any cheaper versions of the cape thing in different colours anywhere? Or a pattern?

Namechanged101 · 23/03/2015 19:52

Carrie that's really helpful thank you!- I'd like the twitter handle pls :)

PetiteBateau · 23/03/2015 20:24

If your arm is as big as your thigh you must have very slim thighs, lucky woman. Nothing wrong with that arm

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 23/03/2015 20:39

I have a badly scarred arm and have to cover it. Even when I was a bridesmaid I had to wear a bolero. It makes me doubly awkward and self conscious that some people are wondering why I'm wearing 'silly sleeves' Sad I wish I could get past my feelings and be brave enough to bare them but I just can't.

kindlyelephants · 23/03/2015 20:53

I just bought that lacy cardigan thing CMOTGilbertBlythe linked. Only cost a fiver altogether, and it's beautiful! Thanks!

MrsPeacockDidIt · 23/03/2015 21:12

That jigsaw cape is on my spring/summer wish list. I went to try it on last week and it's lovely. It's one size only and I'm 14 top and it does not meet at the front. I don't think it's meant to having seen it in the flesh but I could be wrong.

I cover my arms because of the sun so I love a kimono style top. Mint velvet have a silk one too.

nottheOP · 23/03/2015 21:21

Please may I join. I have one particular issue with my leg - arms, namely that they're so disproportionately big compared to the rest of me. I cannot buy shirts, blazers or any non stretch tops to fit.

If they fit my arms they're at least two sizes too big in my body.
