Home made clothes chic? Or cheap?

I'm a size 18/20 apple shape and I have real issues getting nice classy clothes to fit me. Soooo I love seeing and decided to make some of my own. I made a corgi pus Pink Boucle jacket which I have worn loads and just made a few other pieces. All r well made and I have been asked lots where I bought my jacket.

However had a pal over for coffe this week and showed her my latest project and she said "it's not like u to be so cheap"?
She said home made clothes look anything But stylish. I'm i being deluded. ????

If they look stylish and fit well then that's all that matters Smile

Yes yes, sewing is trendy, ethical, creative etc and that is probably why the jealous unimaginative friend is putting the OP down about it.

Op you and this thread have inspired me. I am sitting googling beginners sewing classes in my area. Smile

As said by others, it depends entirely on how it's made. I know two people who make their own clothes, one who looks fabulous and stylish in beautiful, elegant dresses mainly, the other, not so much, as she doesn't have the skill to create the garment (so that the hem is even) or pattern match or insert zips or darts properly, or the knowledge of how to create a flattering fit by using cut and cloth.

goodness, homemade clothes can be very stylish - def jealous friend. Ignor her and wear and make what you want!

It's possible to save a lot of money by doing home decorating sewing, but not dressmaking. You are wearing bespoke clothing; it's just that you are making it yourself. When I used to make clothes (don't have the patience now), everything fit perfectly, and I used a lot of finishing details that most ready-to-wear doesn't have. It is definitely chic, not cheap.
