Where do you buy nice, everyday tops if you are short & big of boob?

After running out of winter / spring transition ideas mid-week, it's become clear that I need to refresh my wardrobe.

One thing I'm desperately short of is tops. I've plenty of wintry cashmere sweaters and the like, but I really struggle with nice tops.

I'm not looking for anything really fancy, although I like decent quality. I've had a few knitted tops from Hobbs and oddly, more than a few of the 'smarter / less obviously sporty' Icebreaker tops for wearing with jeans.

I find buying tops a tremendous faff. I'm 5', short in the body and a 10-12, with slim waist and big boobs. Too long and I look like I'm standing in a drain; too boxy and I look like a very small rugby player, so I find myself defaulting to fitted knitted scoop / v necks.

Any suggestions?

I don't get on with much at Boden but I am a short in the body/reasonably upholstered and find their long sleeve Bretons and lightweight boatnecks perfect for my frame.

I've got a couple of nice t-shirts from Hobbs and Whistles, and a couple of quite nice tops from Jack Wills. Find it really hard though, and tend to live in plain black scoop neck three quarter sleeve t-shirts. a lot of the time.

These are good

This is pretty

I have quite big boobs, on a big rib cage, and boat necks look awful- maybe I have a short neck though? I like jersey shirts or collared t ahirts (not polo type, too stiff), with v neck jumpers or knitted vests over the top- sort of v relaxed preppy.

BuggersMuddle · 14/03/2015 19:21

Ooh that Whistles top looks exactly the sort of thing I'm after. I think I will order it!

I went out this afternoon and have come back with a top and blouse from Hobbs, but am going to try them on this morning before removing the label as I may have been losing the will by that point...

Can I have a side rant about assistants in the higher end shops looking at my boobs (had a long longish blazer on open, over a fitted t-shirt) and then fucking of to get 'my size' and coming back with something that's bloody enormous? I felt like saying: 'No, I am holding the size S / 10 / 12 because I believe it will fit me. I am not deluded, I am short.'

I was watching this thread, hopeful of lots of suggestions. I have started similar threads myself, with less than a handful of posts. I guess the few answers are because there are so few tops suitable Sad

tropical bird top

scarf v neck

leaf print scoop neck

stripe v neck

paint print v neck

I'm very similar to you - 5'1" with a slim waist and a 32FF/G. I love warehouse and oasis for affordable and pretty tops. I like a v neck but even a higher neck can look nice if the fit is good.

Arm length is important too - nothing that stops near the boob-line! Cap or elbow suits me.

Marking my place for a look tomorrow.

twirlypoo · 15/03/2015 23:52

Marking my place too - I look like a bloody weevil at the minute, my boobs have their own postcode Confused

I tend to avoid too much pattern on my tops. As well as being short with big boobs, I have broad shoulders and a short neck so patterns can make me look bigger on top.

I also find that my boobs can distort the patterns on tops, making them look strange.

Dancergirl · 16/03/2015 14:43

I like the Jack Wills ones remus, do you think that shape works with boobs?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/03/2015 17:53

Dancer - that shape would work on me. I'm a 10-12, v narrow shoulders, long skinny neck, 32E. I don't like to show too much collar bone, as I can look a bit scrawny on top with horrible big norks bulging out below! Sound gorgeous, don't I? Grin
