Are GHDs still the bees' knees?

Hi there - I need some new straighteners. I have GHDs which are probably about 8 years old. Until recently they were fab but I think they've broken - the light won't stop flashing so I assume they're not getting hot enough - they still straighten a bit but it's a bit crap and I think hair's getting damaged as having to over do it. Due to the age of them I'm debating whether to go for repair or splash out on new ones. I'd heard (on here but can't find the thread), however, that the new ones are not so good, even a new brand was being mentioned.

Any thoughts before I make this massive investment? (the £100 ones) Thank you. I need to dash off to make tea now, but I will be back on later.

TIA x

I find the same thing when I wash my hair! So weird! I have fine, thin hair too which is prone to unworkable waves and frizz.

I'm jealous, mine came from Amazon and only came with a sleeve, no clip!

The heatproof sleeve is actually a bonus as my GHDs came with no extras (back in the day) and I was always scared of scorching a surface/ having to wait ages for them to cool before putting them in my luggage. Don't know why I didn't invest in a heatproof wrap from ebay Grin

My GHDs were too old to have an auto-shut off feature which led to many a mid-morning panic at work (lived alone). Am very happy that my cheap Remingtons have this Grin

I am spreading the word - like an obsessed crazy lady!

*HaveYouSeenHerLately" Do you mean a hair clip? My hairdresser gave me one when she was appalled when I said I didn't section my hair! As it's thin and fine it's not as if it has many "sections!" On my Remingtons it's a clip to keep them closed - it is on them at the end near the cable - check yours out! I have an old BaByliss roll up heat mat I use as I've previously burned the bed with straighteners. I also sat on them once and branded myself Grin

My only regret now is I won't get a Cloud9 umbrella but I guess I can buy a lot of umbrellas with my £90 odd pound saving! Besides with my wonderful new sleekness you never know I may have to dash under cover the very second a cloud appears.

Still feeling sleek and shiny :-)

I may not

Ah yes I thought you meant a sectioning clip! I have plenty of those which came with my hairdryer, thought I'd missed out on an exciting free clip Shock Wink
I'll investigate the cable...

The newer GHDs feel like they're ripping your hair out, I'm tempted to try Cloud 9's

Did I mention my new Remingtons GingerLDN? No ripping Grin

Came on here to put forward a vote for GHDs as a die-hard user but now I'm intrigued with these cloud 9's?! Why have I never heard of them beforeShock

violetbunny · 17/03/2015 04:59

I replaced my GHDs last year as my previous pair was 6-7 years old and had seen better days. The quality has definitely gone downhill and I regret purchasing the new pair.

MmeMorrible · 17/03/2015 13:21

I shouldn't have opened this thread. I have two pairs of fully functioning GHDs (different sizes) but now I really want a L'oreal steam pod.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 17/03/2015 13:44

going o reserve a pair of the linked ones op, hope they are good. I just ordered the ghd eclipse after much googling and reading of reviews, but if these work will send the ghd back. I have the ghd hairdryer though and its fab and the eclipse do match Blush

chopinbabe · 17/03/2015 14:06

A L'Oreal steam pod is the only way to go. It probably doesn't straighten better than lots of others but my hair stays looking good for an awful lot longer.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 17/03/2015 18:17

Well I'm still happy with mine. I got my hair cut today to get rid of all straggly ends so really looking forward to doing it tomorrow. I washed my hair this morning and when I'd blow dried it it looked way smoother than it usually does, it seems even to last a bit through washes, so I didn't even bother straightening (and it was raining and I was about to trot off for a cut and blow dry!)

Good luck with yours HelpMeGetOutOfHere. Please let us know how you get on. Smile

I've found a wonderful product to use with my straighteners - Expel marketing Argan Oil heat defence spray - only 99p from Home Bargains and it's made my hair feel gorgeous - a good squirt before blow drying and straighening - hair feels even more silky and smooth Smile
