What do 11/12 year old girls wear these days?

Hi, not sure where to put this but...

My almost 12 year old daughter isn't interested in fashion or clothes or shopping which is fine by me, in fact long may it last. However, she needs some new clothes as she has grown out of everything she owns. All she seems to wear are navy striped tops and leggings/jeggings and whatever trainers are nearest the door, which is all very well, but I don't want to go out and buy 7 of the same tops and 7 of the same leggings. what are kids age 11 and 12 wearing at the moment? what (for want of a better word) is "trendy", what is not.

She will be starting high school with no uniform next Sept. and I don't want her to stand out by being so obviously dressed by Mum or wearing the same thing day in and day out. I also want to pre-empt any sudden epiphany where she suddenly decides she wants whatever her friends are wearing instead of what I have just got her...

Dd has that exact same parka from new look!

spottymoo · 28/03/2015 07:40

dd wears a parka for school she and her friends got them from primark.

wekends it's either a superdry Wibd cheater that is on its 3rd year and still looks like new biker jacket denim jack ion spring / summer or jack wills body warmer

I'm starting to worry that I dress like an 11 year old.

Putty · 30/03/2015 18:25

Coats! That's another thing we have to master! Brilliant replies, thanks everyone.

Hobbes, I live in jeggings/skinny jeans, stripey tops, converse shoes and hoodies, pretty much like DD. And lots of people can wear harem pants, but I steer clear from them because I just can't. I just can't. They just makes me look like a giant skittle. Grin

Not sure many people over a certain age can carry off the denim shorts and tights look though. :controversial:

Pyjamas mostly these days. Angry

SconessMcFloness · 30/03/2015 22:51

Lots are also fond of using handbags - black pleather with lots of gold buckles and things for carrying school books - I personally think it looks hideous, I may feel slightly irrational over this and am desperately trying to make dd see sense but I feel I may lose eventually because one by one all her friends are become "handbag girls" Hmm Sad

My 14 yo daughter wears EXACTLY what everyone on this thread has mentioned. As do all her friends. Mostly everything is from primark , h and m and new look. Including the converse look alike from primark , which last very well .

So it's obviously a compulsory uniform that they all share on snap chat / Instagram

Mine wears the same but we battle over crop tops, which practically all her friends wear (10/11).

mimiasovitch · 31/03/2015 08:30

My ds aged 14 dresses just like this thread. Dd2 (11) is all about the frock. Occasionally a skirt, or shorts with tights, and jeggings if she needs to (jeans don't fit her incredibly round arse), but usually she's in a frock. Zara, yumi and Jonny b are favourites.

StaceyAndTracey · 31/03/2015 09:21

Good for him mimi - sounds like he has the courage to dress how he pleases

mimiasovitch · 31/03/2015 17:39

Ha! I so meant dd. my phone is correcting it to ds. I don't even have one!

hithereguys · 21/07/2019 09:00

oh my daughter loves nike air force and sometimes converse. everyone gets from brandy melville and urban outfitters usually she is wearing skinny or baggy ripped jeans and some tops and a jacket. sometimes when its warm she will wear dresses and skirts.

Wow I didn't realise DM's are so popular again! Are we talking brand new or "vintage"? Because I have several different pairs in the loft from my own teen years that I used to collect for birthdays and Christmas from age 13 up to 16! Loved my purple pair.

My daughter's only 10, but for a couple of years time are they worth passing down to her? Or are the old ones, what they call vintage on eBay, not popular with kids and they have to be brand new designs?
