Where on the high street has decent quality, every day clothes?

I'm fed up of the shoddy crap in my wardrobe. I usually buy very budget - Primark, New Look, H&M.
Does anywhere have decent quality clothes for not horrendous prices? How is Oasis? And Mango?

Uniqulo for basics. I'm still wearing long sleeved T shirts I bought from there in 2007.

I think you can find quality on the high street at every price point - look for cut, fabric, print or lack of, etc.

I find stores that are usually a little out of my price range are the first I look at in sales because when reduced they become my price range. For example I love Warehouse dresses and often pick them up for between £10 - 25 and Clarks shoes/boots in the sale often become the price I pay elsewhere. I've also picked things up from Monsoon, Joules and French connection this way too. You do have to look for classics or put away for the next season so can't be a dedicated follower of trends if you do this.

I think it's wrong to say just Primark/New Look are shoddy as I've seen similar quality in Topshop/ Next / Oasis etc where you pay more for something you'd expect to see in Primark. If you look and shop carefully you can get some good things from these cheaper shops.

Good shoes, boots jackets, coats, and bags lift an outfit IMHO. Get these classic things in the sales or when stores have 20% off/ discount days and mix and match with some cheaper things

I have stuff from primark that I bought when I first started shopping there in 2003! But all the recent stuff I've bought has been appalling.
I used to love their t-shirts. They were lovely and thick and had a lovely stretch, but they're rubbish now.

Warehouse! I'd forgotten about Warehouse! I used to love their dresses.

I think it's completely random. High street shops change their suppliers all the time so you might buy something from one store that's quite good quality but go back a couple of weeks later and find it's all shite. I think you just have to look everywhere and keep moving.

Matalan if you choose well.
Love their Modal tops.
Less keen on the polyester fabric blouses.

Jumpers are nice.
Some T-Shirts too boxy.

Primark is fine for tops for me but I cannot wear their trousers.
Can't find anything in George @ Asda for me

Uniqlo are lovely but some of the colours are a bit , quality is great though.

Sainsbury Tu but not the Gok Wan (why d'you think I would like bright yellow and cobalt blue eh? Gok? )

Flo, I think you're right. I buy mostly online apart from Primark, so it can be hard to know what the quality will be like. Maybe the answer is actually to get out to more shops in person.

Warehouse used to be great, but it's all polyester now.

I still rate H&M for basic vest tops. Only £3.99 and wash really well.

M&S for jeans, knickers, jumpers (but need to check fabric carefully).

Clarks and Converse shoes. Might seem a bit more expensive but last for ages.

Jack Wills sales for good quality cotton blouses and sometimes jumpers (but lots are handwash only, which is a pain).

Whistles sales for t-shirts and tube skirts.

Oasis for the v occasional cotton skirt, and their leather jackets are good.

I'm with pepsi on this that a few quality items can really change your wardobe dramatically,when I first started work I used to buy skirt suits to wear for work (very cheap) but would spend extra on tops and blouses and handbags to make the statement so to speak,I am a lover of car boot sales and always seek out classic handbags and scarf's at knock down prices and have had some gems.
M&Co have nice tops and the Tu range at Sainsburys have some smart tops and they are having a 25% sale at the minute so worth a look.

Remus, I've only ever had one pair of converse, they're 3 years old, and absolutely good as new.

Go to tk maxx for good quality at good discounts. You have to rummage and it's pot luck but their knitwear, shoes and bags are often great!

I really like Oasis at the moment.

My mum gets great buys from TK Maxx (and she dresses young I'm not trying to say it carries mum styles!) I don't ever seem to manage it. I do have a lovely bread knife from there though. I'll persevere.

M& S good for underwear, tights, socks etc..

Uniglo good for knits, heat tec, quality fabrics etc..

Clarks v comfy shoes

Zara has nicely cut clothes, think they are a Spanish outfit & often have nice materials ( e.g. Good quality cotton etc)

I'm lucky and live ten minutes from an outlet centre and get Clark's and M & S at 60% reduction. The m and s clearance takes it down to at least half that. Last week got a top for 1.99 with price tag of original 35.99. A £45 jacket for £5. I go to it about every two weeks.. Knickers £1. etc etc

Got Clark's pale grey low cut brogues for £10 and black patent shoes for 12.99.

In TK Maxx I got a pair of Fat Face blue canvas lace ups with white sole for £10. (Have them on at the mo)....

Never pay High Street price except for bras in Bravissimo.

Uniqlo. Travesty that they are not available UK-wide. Very good value.
