It's our bananniversary soon and DH and I always go out for a swish dinner. I have a coast dress from a couple of years ago that i'll probably wear. It's a touch too big now (losing my BF norks) but still fits.
I'd like to update it a bit. maybe a sparkly shrug or something. but don't want to spend very much. any ideas?
PS...this is what the dress looks like

Something like this ? (not 100% convinced about the brown/black combo, but it would probably work)

purplemonkeydishwasher · 25/10/2006 10:14

right idea. but not sure about colour.

How about this (or is it too long?)

TheDaVinciCod · 25/10/2006 10:24

badkarma · 25/10/2006 10:27

Oh I LOVE that teal jacket!! Might get that! Would go nice with jeans!

TheDaVinciCod · 25/10/2006 10:27

i have it
havent worn yet
think am waiting ofr it to get more xmassey

heifer · 25/10/2006 10:35

Nice Jacket, agree you should wait until Christmas then wear with a pair of red trousers and this hat....

Really do like the jacket though... It is very thick? ie too hot to wear inside?

heifer · 25/10/2006 10:54

I know this sounds naff, but take a look at this picture, could you put a colored sash around the dress?

like this

purplemonkeydishwasher · 25/10/2006 11:02

love the sparkly top and the velvet jacket. (and i could wear that with lots...)
actually the dress has a belt so i could wear a sash instead.
now, what about shoes? the ones i have are very open and i'm not sure about them.

If you decide to buy the jacket, you could get teal coloured shoes to tie it all in?

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 25/10/2006 11:06

I suspect closed toe possibly better - but if you're not going to have to walk too far, you could get away with open toe, I think (although then you have the whole tights/no tights thing).

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 25/10/2006 11:09

ooh look - completely not what you're after (I don't think), but spotted halloween shoes . How high a heel can you do? (find it difficult to judge, as am completely useless with heels myself)

princessmel · 25/10/2006 11:10

I would try to get a sash and get some matching closed toe shoes in that colour.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 25/10/2006 11:10

Lol jackie!
erm...not quite what i was thinking!

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 25/10/2006 11:14

These might be a bit daytime, but the right colour?

heifer · 25/10/2006 11:18

I think Black shoes would look best.. How about the ones in this links? the ones the blonde woman is wearing

purplemonkeydishwasher · 25/10/2006 11:21

heifer - thats exactly the type of shoe i'm looking for!
and i love that jacket. saw it in person the other day and it's fab (although i have to admit it's a bit old lady-ish in person. still love it though!)

Crikey did I actually help someone on a style thread... you would really laugh if you could see me still sat in my trackie bottoms and sweat top as we haven't actually got dressed yet....

Hasten to add I do NOT wear this getup outside of the house....

Hope you enjoy your meal out... I am sure you will look great whatever you decide...

Surprised the jacket looks grannyfied, what was the person wearing with it (or do you mean on the dummy at M&S?......

Pinotmum · 25/10/2006 11:34

I like that dress as well - I want a clasic shift dress that doesn't cost the earth.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 25/10/2006 11:42

no, it was just on the hanger. didn't try it on or anything. and it does look fab on the model in the link.
