This is the dress. Now where are the shoes?!

Off out for a leaving do for one of the school mums who is emigrating.

Have just bought this dress which is a great shape and colour for me. Planning to wear with statement necklace, black opaques and...........what shoes?

What shoes would you stylish people go for?

I have a tendency to gravitate towards what DP calls "Strictly" shoes . Think t-bars and retro MaryJanes usually with glittery bits. I'm trying hard to break this habit.

I'm not cool enough for shoe boots or those cage type heels. But I'd like to think I'm too cool for plain black courts? The opaques limit the options too don't they? Feck.

Any ideas or suggestions? Budget up to £50.

I love plain black courts. I think they go with everything. I think I'm pretty cool but others might disagree!

They're fine Flam and I don't mind them on others but they're just not me iyswim.

My shoe collection is made up of leopard print, sparkles, red velvet, purple crock and other colourful, quirky footwear.

I feel like I'm dressing up as my mother when I wear "sensible" shoes .

You could wear quirky shoes with that dress. Personally I think it's crying out for (non platform) shoe boots though, I'm not at all edgy and I wear them.

Yup, leopard would work well with that dress and black opaques. Other quirky shoes could work well too - depends what you have!

Teal, for example, would be grand.

I'm picturing that dress with silver shoes. However if don't feel brave enough to go with silver you can't go wrong with black. Boring and predictable yes, but safe and versitile, yes.

If you were wearing a bare leg I'd say go for something funky/sparkly etc. Because you are wearing black opaque tights I'd definitely go for black courts (actually I go for shoe boots personally, they are so versatile, and so comfy compared to any other heel, ever). Either way definitely plain black, it'll give you really long legs, I think black is the only thing to wear with black tights.

Totally agree Ginger. I'm definitely going for black to elongate my legs.

fanjo they're really nice! I just try to steer clear of ankle straps for leg cutting off reasons. Grrr to being a shortarse.

I just bought these. Reckon they'll look great with opaques and the dress and they're cheap as chips! They also look quite comfortable for high heels.

They're nice Bianca, I had black shoes with the same elastic bands across the front from there, really comfy. That material goes well with opaque tights too, nice and matte
