Help! What is the most stylish way to wear 'proper' shoes and trousers in winter?

I don't do smart, I'm rubbish at it. I have a family funeral this week and am really struggling to find something that's appropriate which I feel comfortable in, have settled on trousers but all of my smart shoes are the sort that show a fair amount of foot and ankle. I think going bare will look tacky, not to mention the fact that I'll freeze, so I'm reluctantly considering some kind of tight/hold up/pop sock. What is the most stylish option or is there anything I haven't thought of that might look better?

Have you got any ankle boots, or longer boots if your trousers are loose enough?

Either very thin cotton socks or pop socks.
Sorry about your loss.

Sorry for your loss Thanks

If your trousers and shoes are both black I suggest patterned/textured knee highs. Along the lines of fishnet but in a much more sedate pattern. I bought some from Peacocks recently and they are surprisingly good quality.

I've got several pairs of ankle boots but they're the sort I'd wear with jeans so too clumpy for my slim fitting trousers. Shoes look OK but it's just those few inches of bare flesh that are causing problems.

My trousers are dark grey and my shoes are black, hopefully I can find something along the lines of a patterned knee high that won't look/feel too hideous.

I think that's a good idea too, knee high better than short socks so you don't show a bit of bare leg when you sit down.

I think black knee highs maybe with a small polka dot design could look quite nice?

i am bare foot a lot with similar but i work in a furnace.just get some very sheer pop socks and wear with heels and trousers

I was coming round to this idea (like the sound of a small polka dot design) but on a whim I ordered a dress last night and when it turned up it actually looks nice so I'm going with that instead. I rarely do dresses but this one is jersey with sleeves (essential) and pockets (my favourite thing because I never know what to do with my hands) so it will work for this and should also cover me for other smart occasions which crop up as they always catch me on the hop.

Thanks for the advice, funerals are stressful enough without worrying about not wearing the right thing.

Glad you found something you will feel comfortable in and that you can wear again.
