Can anyone tell me wear to shop (and maybe what to buy)?

I really want to smarten up but I'm not that great at shopping. I'd love to look more polished. I'm nearly 27 but I'm always getting mistaken for younger and I'm hoping a refreshed wardrobe might do the trick.

I want to look smart and polished but still casual, if that makes any sense at all. I'd love recommendations on where to shop online? And possibly clothes ideas too (suitable for breastfeeding though). I don't know what to say my budget is. I'm not made of money but I'm not against spending a bit more on things that are good quality and will last.

And while I'm in the style and beauty threads... I think my hairdryer is going to blow up soon, any recommendations are most welcome! Grin

What size are you?
What celeb style do you like the look of?
What's your hair like?

HappyMedium · 12/02/2015 19:06

Head to shopstyle.com
If you need tops, for example, select sleeve length, colours, price range etc. to narrow down the search. Then waste spend hours scrolling through options. Order what you likethe look of to try and then return 90% what doesn't suit .
Zalando, esprit, John Lewis, Boden good for free delivery and returns. Prepare to become very well acquainted with your local courier. Buy a roll or 10 of brown parcel tape for re packaging the returns. Have fun!

Good boots, decent bag, decent hair and a good coat/jacket will polish up the skinnies/long sleeve T uniform we all fall back on.

Scarves are also great esp when BFing - the more voluminous the better Grin

Haha thank you for the advice HappyMed. I've never even heard of zalando!

Nilby, I'm a size 8-10, my hair is dark blonde/light brown, a bit past shoulder length and straight. I can't think of any celeb styles!

I am addicted to Zalando! Would you ever consider a personal shopper? Most Dept stores do them and Topshop does. Free with no obligation to buy. I thought it was good fun and would do again.

I love the idea of a personal shopper. How does it work exactly? I don't know if I'd get round to doing it anytime soon, my baby is quite young still.

I really like thesebut it would go against my 'smart' aim.

Zalando is great, lots of choice, free delivery and returns.
I also like Esprit for tops/coats and second the scarf suggestion for breastfeeding, long, large scarves are great when you feel a bit over exposed and can be used to cover any cold flesh.

Depending on your style needs will really inform where you shop.

However you're slim ao I would think you can wear what you like!

Do you have to be smart for work?
Do you need going out clothes?

I also like
Johnny b at Boden and massimo Dutti

foSho · 13/02/2015 10:49

I don't need going out clothes and I'm on maternity leave right now but when I'm at work my office is more of a casual/trendy type place. It's a London media company, lots of 'cool' people work there. I am not one of those people. I just want to look nice day to day really.

Actually I want people to start treating me like a grown up. I have a young face and yes I am quite slim. I'm sick of being mistaken for a teen!

Thank you for all the ideas of where to shop everyone. I haven't heard of more than half of your suggestions before so this is like a whole new world. Though I have been on MN long enough to have heard of boden.
