Are supermarket clothes ok? Bought a wrap dress from Sainsburys....

I am clueless when it comes to clothes and creating outfits for myself. From advice on another thread I went shopping for a wrap dress but my actual shopping day isn't until Tuesday, I was in Sainsburys getting the groceries and saw a brown wrap dress with swirly patterns on it (anyone else seen it?). I think it looks nice with my knee high brown leather boots but looking for confirmation whether supermarket clothes are ok or should I steer clear as the cut wont be upto much etc?

Thanks
Lucy

If you think it looks good then wear it .

Many of my clothes come from supermarkets.

HumphreyComfrey · 22/10/2006 21:29

If you like it and you can afford it, then buy it!

CountTo10 · 22/10/2006 21:30

I think supermarket clothes are great. The cuts/sizes can be a little bit odd at times but on the whole everything I've bought has been great and if anything it's fab being able to get new things without spending a fortune!! Your new outfit sounds great!!

Thanks for your replies. I can't decide if the pattern is very old fashioned but maybe that's in at the moment?! Like I said, not like I really know what I'm doing.

Good advice re if I like it, wear it! Just a bit wary because like I say I don't really know what goes with what!

Thanks, think I'll wear it for DD 8 month check today!

4 times in the last couple of weeks I have been complimented on 3 different items of clothing I was wearing and all of them came from supermarkets. I was most surprised as I never get compliments so read into that what you will!

Tutter · 23/10/2006 11:33

i wish they did online clothes shopping

i read great things about e.g. george and tescos but none of my local supermarkets are big enough to sell clothes

yes i thought "looking for confirmation whether supermarket clothes are ok" was a little titter-worthy too lucy, sorry

Lucy1977 · 23/10/2006 14:57

FF and Tutter - lol! Sorry, I'm really on a mission to shift my last bit of pregnancy weight and get myself a new image. I'm probably just too eager at the moment!

I think it's stemming from my lack of self confidence (which I'm working on), have been pointed at and laughed at for a number of reasons growing up and so looking for advice on here but like you say it's probably a bit OTT.

Thanks for all your advice everyone

Im the same. Bit dubious about supermarket clothes but had so many compliments on a couple of dresses that cost less than £20!!

icebat · 23/10/2006 15:06

I get loads of stuff from Supermarkets! I guess I'm of the philiosophy that if you like it, it suits you and you can afford it, who cares where it's from. Wear your new dress and your killer brown boots and feel good girlfriend!!

helsy · 23/10/2006 15:12

A lot of my work clothes are from supermarkets. If you look carefully you can find some fantastic things. I missed out on a fabulous evening dress in Tesco because I was too snobby to buy it - can't find anything like it now!

BATtymumma · 23/10/2006 15:17

i have quite a few items that have come from George @ Asda.

basicly i have NO time to go shopping for things alone and i just cannot drag DS around "girls shops" so i have to get what i can when we go food shopping....he will just about tolerate the clothes aisles so long as he gets a drink or toy car or whatever.

i think the clothes are greta for fashionable day to day wear. it doesnt matter so much if the kids wipe choccy biscuits over you or you accidentally hit boil wash

plus because they are so cheap you get to buy some of the more trendy items as it doesnt matter if you dont get to wear it next season as it only cost you a fiver.

Gobbledispook · 23/10/2006 15:20

Nothing wrong with supermarket clothes imo. Some are crappo of course, but you can usually find nice stuff too in any of the supermarkets. I'm not snobby about it. I don't care where it's from if it looks good.

mammaduck · 23/10/2006 15:22

oh for crying out loud - if it fits and it suits you who cares what the label says?

Lucy1977 · 23/10/2006 15:30

FF - sorry, just re-read my last reply and it sounded like a sob story, I should use more smileys!

I am sooo excited I feel like I have a new lease of life. Amazing how dressing differently alters your confidence, the way I walk etc. My shoulders have been upright this morning and I feel much better about myself.

Tutter - can't you buy sainsburys clothes online? I was trying to find this dress to show you all but couldn't see it, I presumed because I could see other items I'd be able to "add to trolley" but perhaps it was just displaying them?

Thanks again

Lucy

I've go t a lovely green wrap dress from Asda at the moment - always getting compliments when I wear it,.

princessmel · 23/10/2006 16:11

I wear supermarket clothes and so do my children. Lots of people comment on them, especially a few things I've had from ASDA.
Your outfit sounds really nice. You'll be the best dressed at the clinic!
