My experience of side fastening trousers (I never had a flat stomach even before the baby) is that they emphasize rather than hide any bulges - there's nothing in front to give any support to saggy bits. Bought a pair in France last year and never wore them so they went in my last wardrobe clearout. Maybe try La Redoute online?
My favourite black trousers are cotton bootlegs from Boden - the fabric is thick enough to wear through the winter - and to hide (or at least, not draw attention to) the less than perfect bits.

I tried something like this on in Hobbs: hepburn trousers .

ok, will check them out, but anything, um, well, cheaper, seeing as all my clothes seemed to end up with dribble and sick blobs on.
