DD will be 12 next month and we are stuck for present ideas again!

She enjoys decorating her nails and shows me stuff on instagram that she would love to try - complicated, intricate patterns. She loves being creative and I think some nail art stuff plus a book or two would be well received however I am clueless :)

Please help me wise MNetters - what does she need?

I bought one from ebay. It had a gazillion things in it from glitter to transfers, glue to polish.

feetheart · 28/01/2015 16:37

I looked on ebay and got overwhelmed, SO much choice and I don't know what most half of the stuff is Blush

If you have a Sally's near you they sell all the stuff and I'm sure would advise you what to buy.

Essence is pretty good. It's sold in Westfield and at Wilko (including on their website).
I used to buy it in the supermarkets and department stores in Europe and they do pretty decent products at a low price.
There are dotting tools, different tapes and stones for the nails and the polishes, files and polish removers are great.

Thank you both. Gives me something to start with, I really am clueless when it comes to nails and hair.

My dd12 was given this Ciate nail lab for Christmas - she LOVES it, and we have just bought one for her best friend's birthday as she loved it so much too!

feetheart · 28/01/2015 20:31

Ooooo, that looks good...and self-contained! DD does not need any more little crap things in her bedroom.
Thanks

At the moment boots have this nail art set from WAH! London for £25 instead of £85. I bought it in store and it's a brilliant kit with good pens and colours (plus some sequins Etc)
Personally I think it's better quality than ciate and the box is fab (also comes with a great how to guide)

Mendeleyev · 28/01/2015 21:51

Just ordered that for my DD TheImprobableGirl. Looks great. DDs were bought the ciate nail polish advent calendar and I haven't been impressed with how long they stay on the nails.

Konad plates are always fun and a good way of doing the more intricate designs. Amazon often have good deals!

swooosh · 28/01/2015 22:04

I'd get the WAH one too, a very reputable company and a great deal.

Loveleopardprint · 28/01/2015 22:20

Different suggestion. My 12 yr old DD likes using hair chalks. Primark have sets for £4 at the moment. Cheap and cheerful bit of fun.

feetheart · 29/01/2015 09:55

Have just ordered the WAH kit.
Thank you so much for helping a novice make sense of it all - the beauty of MN :)

And thanks for the hair chalks idea too.

We bought this for dds birthday a few years ago! She loves it Smile

Hoppinggreen · 30/01/2015 09:20

Hair chalks are evil - think Moonsand!!!
Kids love it but it makes a mess.
My DD 10 got hair chalks for Xmas and let's just say a new carpet is needed in her bedroom

feetheart · 30/01/2015 10:10

Thanks for warning...trip to Primark possibly off.
We do have hair 'mascara' that we used on DS in the summer but I got to do that. We dip dyed DD's hair at the same time but I think she was disappointed that it washed out so quickly so she lost interest. Maybe we will just stick to nails :)

Thanks Walkingonsunshine00, I'll see how many brushes come in the WAH kit and might add to it. If not this will make a great present for DD's partner in crime - her best friend.
